80mm drop is way too much IMHO. 40mm is about as far as I'd go and that won't give you best comfort.

Unless you can get hold of a set of H&R or Megan springs which lower the Z between 30 and 40mm then it's coilovers for you. You can either go for something like the Ground Control coilovers which use quality Eibach springs. These aren't full coilovers, just height adjustable springs. But coupled with something like KYB adjustable shocks, you have almost the same control.

You could then go a step up and go for a full coilover set. Tein Flex coilovers seem to get good reviews.

If you are dropping your car, you really need to consider camber adjustment. Advise on fitting adjustable camber arms and tension rods.

got teins on mine standard height though as not sure about adjusting everything else if lowered. On softest setting they are still a lot firmer than stock

Standard height? Sounds like you have H-tech on yours which don't offer much of a height reduction, just a slightly more taught ride.

18's anyone got any pics of a 40mm drop on 18's? also whats the deal with the 45 quid ones on ebay? bit dodgy?

Yes, dodgy Chinese springs.

This is lowered around -35mm to -40mm. Megan springs.

Dunno which ones, they were on car already green ones . looks like loads of adjustment on them the windey up part underneath has a good few inches of thread. They also have an allen bolt thingy on the top of the strut. Was told they were set to softest setting when I got the car but are loads firmer than my white cars stock ones.

40 looks just right, right where can i find some decent chepies?

nice one mate

Megan are import only I'm afraid. Don't think there are any official distributors in the UK. PLEASE PLEASE fit adjustable camber arms and tension rods though. The car will not only look tired on non-adjustable stock ones, it'll also wear the inner parts of your tyres at an alarming rate.

Doing a propper suspension rebuilt/upgrade will cost you the best part of £1k. That's not for coilovers either.

front and rear tie rods do it? how much where from? i had camber bolts for my cali, omega and carlton, presumably they achieve the same thing?

IIRC, on the Calibra and Carltons you have to get adjustable top mounts as, whilst they are fully independant, they aren't multi-link like the Z. You can get a shim kit, but they don't have the adjustability of the fully adjustable versions. Danny @ DTA can supply you upper adjustable arms and tension rods for the front and rear camber arms.

pretty sure is stock height si looks it anyhoo here's the car got it a few weeks back from gumball http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=117893&highlight=%A31700 all I know is they are tiens, green in colour and handle sh#t loads better than my other zed

Yeah, does look like stock height. Hard to understand why someone would fit coilovers and leave them at the stock ride height though.

if i lower it I'd have to change other stuff too would I not?

bet there bloody expencive, think ill stick a cambelt on first then start worrying about the ride height, funnily enough i got a quote on a belt and tensioner kit - just 65 quid is that right? - good advice guys - thanks!

Unless yours has adjustable camber arms/tension rods, then yeah. Your geometry would be out otherwise. Again, hard to understand why someone would go to the bother of fitting coilovers and not fitting adjustable tension rods. Maybe it was part-project.

What make is the belt?

Doesn't matter about power really. Handling and power are a different thing.

  • Author

but the belt has nothing to do with handling? i presumed you ment the make of the belt determined how well it would put up with power from the engine?

No, I quoted you after saying you wanted to have your timing belt changed. I quoted asking what make of belt as you said you'd gotten a timing belt kit for £60.

other stuff looks like stock here's the coilovers just took a pic in the cold dark garage bit rusty but work ok
