Have just read in Classic Car Weekly that DVLA have proposals in hand to allow 'numbers' to spell out names . the example given is that one could buy from DVLA 'JAMES' rather than having to make do with the closest i.e J 4 MES.

Does anyone have more info on this, and what do we think the impact of this would be on the value of current 'personal' numbers??

BTW do you remember the days when DVLA did all within their powers to discourage this 'industry'?

Very little I'd imagine. Plates like that will end up costing a fortune and there's only one way to spell James....if you know what I mean.

Affordable plates won't be affected as they will remain affordable. IE in the 500 - 2000 price bracket.

whilst i agree that the plates will be very expensive I reckon that it may well reduce the value of existing plates (at least in the short term).

I had a Nissan Primera with the reg plate of: -

9TU

This was valued at £25,000 (sold for £)

If I remeber correctly, is all press photo's of Astin Martins have a TU reg plate.

Only paid about 5% of the value of it (I even informed the owner of the car that I was buying from but was just after some fast cash).

:wack:

I love mine but am worried people could get the wrong impression!
