on a derren brown tip...if you play regulary do you want to increase you chances of winning the lottery? buy another ticket maybe? nope the answer is simply to choose random numbers...ala the lucky dip David Spiegelhalter wrote this interesting article on the uk lottery results winning and rollovers Consider a lottery in which there are N possible number combinations - in the UK Lottery N = 13,983,816. Each ticket therefore has a 1N chance of sharing in the jackpot. Suppose we sell N tickets, what is the chance of nobody winning the jackpot? What if we sell 2N ? The chances are shown below, and hold whatever N is, provided it is large! Chance that nobody w…

I have a head unit that has a slot for a USB in the front. Can I use a portable USB drive (4GB) to play MP3 format files via the head unit. When I connect it to the head unit I get a message saying no file system. I've also tried connecting my Ipod but it doesn't pick that up either. on reading the manual there is a disclaimer about it not being guaranteed to play all formats :( The head unit is made by Denver the USB drive is an integral 4GB

Now this is the way to run things................ A maverick mayor elected after promising to slash council spending, clear the streets of yobs and ditch politically incorrect services is the torchbearer for how towns should be run. On his first morning as Mayor of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, Peter Davies cut his salary from £73,000 to £30,000 then closed the council’s newspaper for "peddling politics on the rates". Now three weeks into his job, Mr Davies is pressing ahead with plans he hopes will see the number of town councillors cut from 63 to just 21, saving taxpayers £800,000. Mr Davies said: "If 100 senators can run the United States of Amer…

  17. In the middle of putting some promo packs together and I'd really like to include a USB key with tracks/photos etc on. Wouldn't take up much in the way of memory so I was thinking something in the region of 256-512Mb would suffice and ideally (and this may be wishful thinking!) in the region of £1-2 each! Am I day-dreaming or do you guys know where I can lay my hands on some? I'd like to order some fairly sharpish...probably 10 to start with and if they work out, a further 20. I'm currently working my way through Google trying to find something that fits the bill but if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be grand :D

while walking through the market on holiday, you notice a small stand selling a camera and case set selling for £310. the merchant tells you that the camera costs £300 more than the case itself and that the case costs the price of the set minus the cost of the camera you decide to buy just the case without the camera. you hand the merchant £100 how much change would you get back?????

Not sure how many members on here are into Ice Hockey or have ever been to a game but as a ref I get guest passes. So if anyone one is interested or wanted to come to watch a game, in October I am in Bristol Bracknell Oxford Telford On different weekends so if anyone fancies coming along drop me a pm of where and I'll let you know the date and sort some passes.

  22. Why is it that when I click "New Posts", then click on a post to read it, then click "Back", it goes to the default home page (instead of going to the new posts list that I'd previously visited)? It's only started doing this in the last few weeks. It used to work fine. Also, it only happens on the first page (of many pages) of new posts. Once I get on to the 2nd page of new posts it doesn't do it any more and behaves as you would expect. I'm using Google Chrome Beta (3.0.195.21) and it used to work properly. I've just checked and it works properly (all the time) in IE7. No biggie (although it is annoying) - just thought I'd let you know.
