Are you certain it is the rear mate, mine was doing exactly the same thing, I took the rear end apart and found nothing, took it to a garage and they found nothing on the rear, but said the noise was coming from the front pads, changed them and the sound went.

I have 8's on the front of mine mate with 235/40 rubber and that seems fine.
