  1. Just a thought I am newbie and I used to love going to junk yards, started in begining when I couldn't afford new oem parts, my son hated it,,snakes and such.. Well, years ago I restored (2) Opel GT's , this was very first new car I ever bought, I subscribed to Opel clubs and soon I came to learn that were some parts that were impossible to get anymore. So I started writting them down with pic's if possible and always carried my notebook whenever I went to junkyards, only ones I really liked were the ones that let you out in yard. Well anyway I continued restoring the first Opel,,and I went to a junk yard that had a few of them (5) cars..One of the rare parts was passengers front side turn signal lens. At this junk yard that had (5) cars,,(3) of them had this lens and in good shape. I bought all (3),,total cost was $7.50, Took them home, polished them up and sold them for considerable profit. Do Z cars have any parts that enthusiasts seek? Or have sought previously? I am going to be junkyard cruising again perhaps when I buy a 300zx I will have to. While I am there it would be no problem to look for extremely rare parts..Pic's would really help on these rare parts. I have had my best results from old junkyards, especially ones that are not hooked up to internet or way in the country. My brother restored a 56 T bird,,and had looked far and wide for powered seats. I was out driving one sunday, I like back roads (all the curves) and I came upon old junkyard that had a T bird on the roof as a sort of advertizement back in its day, Well I stopped n talked to current owner and he really did not know what was in the T bird, we got a ladder out and up I went. It had powered seats!, down I came got tool box, and back up I went..It was electric screw driven and actually only kinda moved back of seat. I took it all, if part even looked close to this powered seat I took it. Sprayed liquid wrench on it,,tapped it a few times,,smoked a cigarette, and then unbolted it. When finished I came down with all parts and one heck of a good sunburn. Guy didn't charge me anything,,said it fun just watching this big guy on roof,,lol ..I shipped parts to brother and he got it rebuilt and installed it, was really rare part back then. He then asked me if the bird had a Paxton supercharger, I told him they were only on 57 "f" model birds and he said I was right,,but after market had made kit to install it on 56 birds also. I told him next time he visits I'll take him there and he can climb ladder and look. lol,,We never went back. So are there any parts for 300ZX or 240Z that are impossible to get? It never hurt to look if I pass one by in junkyard..Pic's would be good..I think you all junk yards = breakers,,why?
  2. When I first read the thread , I thought of the storage compartments behind the seats, the unit I suggested dimensions are 11"X8" and 3" high, was hoping for a fit there, remove lid on storage area and put a protective grate over sub in this area. Then I thought of area right next to interior hatch either side. A protrusion there even if it was close to surface mount would be like 3" in. There are other ones from Crutchfield that are in stock,,if they had wireless remote, well then "Bob's your uncle" ( emglish slang, I think) Brad Future z owner PS: need to remember, I do not currently have one (car) so my references are based upon pic's, reading, etc.
  3. was just fooling around and joking (right) has a few definitions
  4. try this: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_613KSCSW11/Kenwood-KSC-SW11.html?cc=01&tp=114
  5. That's because they are all small, except for the sumos Heck they can probably get a family of 4 in a two seater. Perhaps they call the 2 + 2 a station wagon. Just joking, no disrespect intended,,They make great stuff! Now if they had one being sold by sumo wrestler I might not have egress issues, :asshole: Strange but I have noticed that England and Japan have something in common besides tea, Ya both have the steering wheels on wrong side of car, :w00t: These are just impartial observations made by a senior citizen :wheelchair:
  6. Wanted 300zx 1990-1991, manual shift NA or TT, 2+2 is OK, Leather would be nice, Steering MUST BE FOR USA, To export must have MOT up to date, Clear Title, Vin that can run through Carfax. I am having trouble in USA in finding/obtaining a 300ZX for daily use, would like everything to work on car, Pls no WIP cars or cars heavily modified. Sadly, in USA there are many scams and washed titles, once I get vin, I run CarFax, and the questions start. They drop like flies after I mention it will be a 3rd party buy and I will have prospected car inspected twice (I pay for inspections). First inspection is by good Z specialist and second inspection is by a Nissan Dealership that can has computers that can handle these cars. These inspections are like a "Pre-Purchase Inspection". I also ask inspection(s) to give cost estimate of what needs to be fixed on car (the cars are old and therefore they all need one thing or another, some immediately and others down the road). Literally it is as close to a "turn key purchase" or as close as one could get. Based on egress issues having aftermarket steering wheel with diss is a plus also having aftermarket stereo is a plus, however no ghetto blasters please. I realize i will have to ship and get car through customs, but that is a wash as compared to having one hauled from west coast to me. I have NEVER have gotten to price (negotiation) with anyone yet, Like I said - "they drop like flies" once they hear inspections but I am not looking for deal/steal of the century and will certainly pay for what I get. If I get one of the club members cars I will include free lodging, food, beverages and visitation rights to your old car. I can also you pic's from time to time, matter of fact anyone who assists me in obtaining a car is welcome also. Charleston, SC is a good place to visit. Brad Future Z owner email: bradandnone@gmail.com PS: I will also throw in free driving lessons so you all can learn to drive on the correct side of the road
  7. Hi, I have given up on the "firebird" wheel, and thanks be to all that aided me in making that decession. also I now understand (hopefully) the aftermarket steering wheel install steps. The aftermarket steering wheel is needed for me to increase egress entering and exiting the car. I just need a little more room. The sequence for the steering wheel is boss, Quick Diss and finally wheel. If I use a 13" (320mm) wheel I might not need the diss. If I use a 15" (350mm) wheel I will have to have the diss Going to aftermarket setup either way will mover the wheel closer to me. I think I am going to go with the 13" (320mm) wheel and include the diss, this way I also gain a theft deterrent by removing wheel when car is left unattended. This will not stop theft (if they really want car - they are going to get it, no matter what I do - it will just be harder for them to get it. Along those lines, I will probably install a reed switch using a magnet to activate it, a GPS tracker (hidden and self powered) and possibly a baby monitor. Last case would be a Denver boot. Sadly, Charleston, SC has a real problem in auto theft and they are very fast at doing it, we are a high tourist area and there are many thefts, they are kept out of the news because of the effect it might have on the tourism industry, the same logic is used on shark attacks, we are (so is Georgia and Florida east cost) right in the path of the sharks migratory path, we are located just west on the gulf stream. Thanks again for all the feedback on the steering wheel. Your patience, cooperation and future cooperation is greatly appreciated, Brad future Z owner PS: I am getting frustrated on my search to acquire a Z. Sadly there are many adds for 300ZX cars that have their titles washed, Carfax really helps me in this matter.
  8. Gold mine and it's all mine! I like Lee's response and wanted to chime in (pontificate?) again on this topic, I also like rice, white, brown and wild (used to just eat it)..Now it has a new meaning also. We need to give thanks to those who do any and all changes to 300ZX, they also use a lot of oem equipment and therefore parts are available. These are the wearable parts we all have in common. As long as demand remains high, producers will continue to make them. Also their knowledge base is good reference on certain areas. Whenever I see any mod to any car and if I got the time I'll stop, chat and encourage them (esp if 300ZX, I will make the time). Some of the stuff they take off is like Gold to us and it gives us a whole new and cheap source of oem parts. I do not have a 300ZX yet, but I do have a great list of where some things are, suspension, wheel & tires are fantastic. I went past a gas station other day and just about wrecked my car (rubber necking a 300ZX low rider, I turned around and stopped to talk to him,,he had 20" spinners for wheels, slammed down, upholstery was furry stuff, only think he was missing was fringe around the windows. I took a couple of maalox, tums and other stuff to keep my stomach from throwing up but we talked and guess what..He was proud of what he and buddies had done and I found out he has a lot of oem and aftermarket stuff in his garage that he took off when he bought the car, and they were cluttering up his garage now. They were in such a hurry to get his car done and drive it that whatever he / they took off,, was just put in garage. He said wheels had no curb rash, tires were good but profile was not on his car with them. Interior was leather and they took time and took it off seat frames, radio worked originally and had 6cd changer of course it was Bose and here is the kicker. One of the guys worked b4 at Nissan dealership when the 300ZX were brand new and he "carefully" took a lot of stuff out with the harnesses intact. When he said that I of course got the guys name and phone # , then I really started to look and ask questions, I did not let the fact that this stuff was worth a lot of money,,to him,,it was just in the way..When I looked in interior - the dash had been replaced with a 1957 4 door chevy one, I did not say a word or ask about oem dash, not even color..I just asked what he was running for engine, he opened hood and he was oem there, but he told me about the wiring his nissan guy had done and he said: his buddy really took his time and unhooked everything (did not cut) ,,kept the ecm however to make his new gauges work and other things he went from the connectors if possible or changed the sensors. Of course I got more telephone numbers and names, I stopped asking then and we just talked..I he had 20" spinners on the wheels and he could bounce the rear off the ground,,nasty!!,,Said soon they were gunna do the front to bounce also. I might have to eat a few tacos and get the runs from them, but I am gunna get into that garage once I get my Z,,I already know a few spanish words and I intend to learn more,,,lol... Poor guy,,,he has a new "Best Friend" and does not even know it,,,lol Brad PS: Fantastic paint job, oh ya his mother is widow - God help me,,,lol
  9. I forgot,,that is 13" wheel,,with 15" wheel,,use this one https://www.amazon.com/Leather-Stitches-Steering-Nissan-Adapter/dp/B00FAD4JW2?SubscriptionId=AKIAIJZCAHYJ3ILXVY2A&tag=center-kenes-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B00FAD4JW2 I am hopefull I am correct
  10. After market steering wheel kits. Perhaps this is the one https://www.amazon.com/Nissan-Sentra-Stitch-Steering-Release/dp/B0113KJ1HS?SubscriptionId=AKIAIJZCAHYJ3ILXVY2A&tag=center-kenes-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B0113KJ1HS It comes (If I am reading it correctly) Steering wheel quick diss connect hub adapter all for under 100 lbs british,,so for me it would be about 140 or so Am I correct? Brad Future Z owner
  11. I forgot,,I am sad that Wheeler dealers have broken up, Perhaps I can convince ED to move to USA and become my neighbor, I would be willing to supplement his costs,,,lol Brad
  12. I found solution to still have cruise control after mounting after market steering wheel. Here is the link: http://www.thecruisecontrolstore.com/universal-rostra-cruise-control-kit-w-dash-switch/ Make sure you check off box on auto or manual. Also if you like it, for a few more quid you can get the switch to be wireless remote (only bring it out of storage when you want to use it) or use double sided velcro.. I dunno if it causes conflicts with OEM warning systems , but it should not. It does not hook up to anything already on car..It is complete "stand alone" kit. This kit (if uncomfortable doing it yourself) can be put on by decent mechanic or sterio installer. Est Time is about 4 hours labor, and NO dealerships involved! Now, I am down to just obtaining a good car, choosing between aftermarket steering wheels and size or using quick diss. I have already chosen short throw linkage (Stillen). Yipee! Brad future Z owner and coming closer by the day PS: I would appreciate opinions on 13" vs 15" (oem) steering wheel diameters, because if I go 15 then I will definately need quick release.
  13. If I just removed my oem 1990-1991 NA steering wheel and installed adapter, (perhaps quick diss also) and aftermarket 13" wheel (with no diss) or 15" with diss , I will have solved my egress issues. However, I lose the cruise control buttons. I have looked and not been able to find any info about how and where to put these options back into use, I like cruise control. Anybody seen or heard of way to enable / move these 3 buttons so that I can have cruise control? Brad Future Z owner ( I am coming closer to obtaining one), this is last hurdle to overcome B4 I buy one
  14. Opinions: Some are different than mine, I guess that is why they sell ice cream in so many flavors :cool3: I joined the UK club because of Wheeler Dealers and them showing "England's "cottage industries. Here in the colonies (USA) :offtopic: Well, we don't have them, either buy new or forget it. 300ZX's parts can get expensive, even when rebuilt. I like to think first and buy second. I am going to buy one (its on my bucket list) and we all know when the end is near, simply because we take the list seriously. I am in process of buying one right now (again). Sadly in USA there are lotta scams regarding these cars (just too good to be true) and it takes time and effort to sift through them. I can do the effort, however time is another thing.
  15. I forgot to mention previously, I have friends at Iditit and Flaming River :tongue_smilie:
  16. I think the last link will work me also. I can find no instructions on how this setup is supposed to be installed,, I know to disconnect battery first Remove current oem wheel and associated stuff However is it adapter first Boss next then quick dissconnect then new wheel? or boss adaptor then quick? Oh ya,,on subject of all buttons, I like them. Some people like choc ice cream others prefer vanilla,,lol I also like gauges with needles rather than idiot lights or LED readouts:cool3:ts
  17. I never understand everything,,lol That is why I put the steering column link in orignal message Brad
  18. I dunno, but this might work https://whiteheadperformance.com/product/nissan-300zx-steering-wheel-hub-boss-adapter-kit/ Brad
  19. 1990-1991 NA Steering wheel quick disconnect will this part work? http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Steering-Wheel-Hub-Adapter-Boss-Kit-For-Nissan-240SX-300ZX-Maxima-Pulsar/361921470430?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140620091118%26meid%3D680a23fea5534e14abfb9bdc1bf79048%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D271314758783 Hopefully after installing this part, I can put original steering wheel back on, I still have to figure out the 3 cruise button hookups on the wheel Ultimate steering wheel I would like to use is this one: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Pontiac-Firebird-Steering-Wheel-Gray-Leather-W-Radio-Controls-Grand-Prix-87-92-/322555942290?hash=item4b19d51592:g:YhAAAOSwA29Y4D7R&vxp=mtr I also have part numbers for steering column to use with this wheel, have not cross checked yet and I will need to figure out where and how to put the 3 cruise buttons.. Cannot fail if we don't try, all we can do is wonder "what if" Brad I doing this for better egress into car.. If I can't do the above
