  1. So my turbo failed it's MOT the other day, very high levels of hydrocarbons in the exhaust gasses, I'm going to have a bit of poke round the car tomorrow but anything common I should focus on? Car is a 1992 turbo jap import and has a catback stainless exhaust, 87,000, fresh oil , seems to run nicely , makes good power, very smooth no hesitation and had about a 1/4 tank of premium fuel in at the time , any suggestions very welcome ! Thanks again Will
  2. Perfect ! Thanks mate!
  3. Hi all ! Having a bit of trouble sourcing a pair of the flexible brake hoses for the rear calipers, mine are looking a bit old and cracked, anyone know any details about what thread is used to mate them to the fixed pipe and the caliper, if I know what the thread is in the fitting I can have some made nearby, Thanks again!
  4. Okay I'll give that a go, just get a lot of air noise from the fan especially noticeable at lower speeds , would just be nice to try and reduce that a bit , Thanks!
  5. Hi! As the title says the large fan that sits between the engine and radiator , driven by the belts is always running on my see even when very cold , does this mean the viscous clutch??? In the fan needs replacement, as I was led to believe these fans should only be engaged at a certain temperature. The fan can be moved by hand when the engine is not running so is not completely seized , sorry for any poor terminology here Haha! As always many thanks :)
  6. The majority of the underseal was pretty good , just a few patches flaking off but managed to shift the bad bits and some of the surrounding stuff using a grinder with a stiff wire wheel which worked fairly well and a course flap disk (about a 60 grit I think)I had lying about which again worked but was prone to getting clogged when the underseal heated up! Horrible job , I don't know what I'd do if I had to do the entire car haha!
  7. Thanks ! I was hoping it would be fairly straight forward, Just curious how many out there have working hicas systems ?
  8. Hi! Had my rear subframe and fuel tank out in order to sort out some of the older flakey underseal around the rear of the car as a bit of a winter project, at the stage to reinstall my rear subrframe but I'm a bit lost when it comes to the HICAS steering ram at the rear, is it just a case of connecting the two input pipes and bleeding the system ? If so what is the procedure ? Many Thanks Will
  9. Thanks very much ! Something to look in to !
  10. Hi All! Is there anywhere that sells the rubber trim/seal that fit around the glass windows behind the drivers head? Or the rubber trim which seals against the drivers and passengers Windows? Mine are a bit shabby and I'm concerned about water ingress into the doors and bodywork around the Windows, the boot windscreen is letting in a bit of water which settles and runs out of the plastic boot lid interior when it is raised, I left the car out in some heavy rain this weekend to try and find any leaks and there appears to be a couple haha, one from the passengers T top and the other the boot as described Anything available or any solutions known ? Thanks !
  11. As for the lack of instrument lights that was just me being an idiot! They work but were too dim to be seen properly in daylight!
  12. Thanks ! Very helpful I'll give this a go tomorrow ! Thanks !
  13. It was hard to say to be honest more centrally , I'll be giving it a proper investigation tomorrow!
  14. Picked up my first 300zx this afternoon! A Japanese import twin turbo automatic with 86,000 miles on the clock, driven her home, around a 40 min trip and all well so far! Having got her back I've noticed a few things , I can't seem to adjust the fan speed for some reason when it's coming out of the dashboard vents, I get a yellow power light flash at me on startup and I don't appear to have any dial backlighting. When nearly home I'd did open her up a couple of times (couldn't resist!) and I think I caused a minor coolant leak from the radiator area which has stopped now the car has cooled and seems to be holding coolant when I popped off to the shops in it earlier, very happy with the car and come what may I'm going to do my best to keep her running as she should, any advice on the electrical niggles ? Many thanks Will
  15. It could be? but they've generated a quote based on my age, and for something like a 2004 3.0 3 series I'd be looking at a similar price so I'll give them a call tomorrow and try to get to the bottom of it !
