  1. Looking for a set of alloys to go on a Z31 (1987). Thanks
  2. Problem solved! Thankfully after a brief investigation by a local suspension specialist, the assembly of the suspension damper had not been correctly fitted. Basically a washer missing from below the mounting plate. Although there was no movement side to side on the MOT testing ramp. Once the damper was disconnected from the bottom, it was very obvious it was up and down motion.
  3. This is all great info, thanks. From what i can see, every bushing has been replaced with the hardened poly versions. Perhaps there could be something that is still original?? How are the diff's mounted out of interested, i thought they were affixed straight onto the body.
  4. Thanks for clearing that up!
  5. If and when the issue is Z31 specific, I’d ask somewhere else. I know the Z32 owners outweigh the 31 on here but I have received helpful responses from most posts about it. Cheers
  6. I had the car up on axle stands all afternoon yesterday after an unsuccessful investigation into the knocking on my Z31. It occurs when driving over rough terrain, thankfully I live in Gloucestershire, so lots of shitty roads to test out. A mechanic who I have known for some time, took it for a drive on Friday and heard the knocking. He said it certainly sounded like suspension. Unfortunately, up in the air, he couldn’t find anything. His ramps simulate some movement, he can rock the car side to side a little turn the wheels etc. Nothing seemed out of place or loose. Back to my investigations…I raised the car and tried to move anything that was a joint. The entire car has been poly bushed, which does make the car overall stiffer but all assemblies appear to have been put back as they should be. All suspension is aftermarket, with no movement in either top or bottom. The only thing I did find although it’s doubtful it would cause any knocking, is the brake discs. Can someone confirm to me what if anything, should be in these thread holes? Anytime I've removed a wheel, the is a countersunk hole in the disc to affix to the hub, usually just one. Thanks
  7. After a few more days of driving it, the axle appears to be fine, sadly this isn't the issue causing the knocking, as it is still there. I've had another mechanic on Friday have it up on the ramps after test driving it, he heard the knocking...he said suspension. When we had it on the ramps, everything appears to be solid, he could come up with anything. The search continues!
  8. No problem bud, thanks for replying. ;)
  9. Mine is the slim 300ZX panel but I was after the panel that fills in the area of the number plate. Is that something you have?
  10. Good shout...I have seen other variations though. I'm starting to think they were all factory.
  11. No joke. He meant welding the cast to the shaft…no more popping out. I won’t be doing the job myself and yeah I will be checking for damage where I can. When you mention elsewhere in the assembly, the shaft only assembles with this clip, does it not?
  12. The age old Z problem as it seems, vibrations! Since picking up the Z31 last Tuesday, it’s becoming apparent it does vibrate, almost as much as my Z32! Except this one has the benefit of no buckled alloys and a seemingly intact centre prop bearing. Tyre pressures running by the book, 28 fronts, 36 rears. (I haven’t had the wheels balanced since acquiring the car, although it looks like all weights are still present). Is the prop shaft in two parts or do you count the second knuckle joint as a third part? What steps can I take to ensure I am running with the least amount of vibrations?
  13. Quick update, so hopefully issue will be resolved. Mike at MJP is sending me out a clip (breaking the bank at £1.75p) and I’ll fit that asap. Jimmer at Powerzed said weld the thing up! That would certainly ensure it wouldn’t pop out again!
  14. I hadn’t actually thought of the dirt aspect to be honest. It sounds like you don’t have a garage either? I am looking to buy a house, my first house, but trying to find one with a garage with my budget isn’t looking good. I guess you have to make a decision when to clean and cover the car because if you go out in the shitty weather, you’d have to try and get it clean again before throwing the cover over. What material is on the inside of the cover you have?
  15. I remember seeing a post on retro rides once about car covers, I remember a guy who had a Porsche 944 and had a quarter cover. So basically a cover that just covers roof and windows etc. Due to the fact It kept moisture in and around the top half of the car, after sometime, the paint was ruined, not to mention the scratching from the plastic material. I imagine that was just a cheap cover and the material didn’t help matters. For those who can’t afford to have a garage, are there options for covers, fabric or otherwise, that would protect and preserve a vehicle? I’d prefer my Z to be out of the harshest conditions, so I’m willing to spend a reasonable amount on a decent solution.
