Surely the numbers dictate the viscosity. So it's shouldn't matter whether it's synthetic or not.?

Is fully synthetic 5w-40 thinner than 5w-30 part synth?? Isn't 5w-30 what Nissan says you should use?

Just been into Halfords or Halfrauds as I have learned to called it on this forum and they have some 5w-40 fully synthetic and 10w-40 semi for £12 for 4litres. Might be handy for anyone looking to do a couple of oil changes to clean up their engine. I'm hoping it's suitable, it says oil industry standards Area A3/B4 and API SM CF. Then it says recommended for applications requiring Mercedes MB 229.3, VW 502.00/505.00 and Renault RN0700/710 It's not with the other oils it'll probably be on a stand near the entrance..

That's about what I'd guess it to be at so that's encouraging. Got a lot more than cleaning to do unfortunately lol. Loads of interior bits to put right (got the bits just not the time) and a full respray to afford... Also you'll note the paper on the floor because of a leak around the rubber join at the t bar.. Rave.

I have no idea what the true mileage is on my zed. The last few mot's the mileage is the same as the odometer had jammed up and the previous mileages are in that case suspect. The engine seems completely sound although I haven't had a chance to accurately check the oil pressure or compression or anything. Here's my pedals :D completely unscientific I know but it might give me some comfort :D

That would be great if you could. Will give me some reference. Being an import I'm keen to try and get a better idea of the true mileage. At the moment it's reading 101k but I'm sure it's more than that.

So I understand this is the Japanese timing belt service sticker? Is this 100,000 km one? I cant read Japanese.. Althoug at the bottom it says 10 (something, something) km.

Unfortunately avoiding salted roads might be difficult as it's going to be my daily driver! I will keep an eye on the inner arches though. Thanks Andrew, that information is massively helpful, glad I won't have to drill them at all. Will have my fingers crossed when I remove the liners!!

The sills on my zed are actually pretty good. There were one or two small holes which I've treated and patched up and have had a good dig at the rest of them with a screw driver to make sure it's all solid. I was going to drill a couple of holes and attempt to treat the insides so that they don't give me trouble in the future. I've heard the inner sills are multi layer. Can anyone advise how best to go about doing the job?

OK, I'll have to get one from them. It's was my old man actually that took the pulley off but he said he was careful and put some paper underneath.. But it's possible it got lost.. Thanks for the help.

In the middle of a timing belt service and there appears to have been no keyway on the crankshaft pulley from a previous service.. Can anyone recommend where I can get one? Looked on all the z websites and been local auto dealers and no luck. I've messaged a few breakers on ebay too but I think they just don't want to sell me such a small component..

No sticker, it appears to be the original! 8-o does that £325 cambelt service include parts?? Anything else to look out for or change while I have the front end off?? Does tensioning the belt require a measuring tool? Had no reply off the eastern auto chap yet re a price.. :]

Thanks for the replies, I'll check cambelt cover tomorrow but I don't think it has a sticker on..could be a 24 year old cambelt!! I am going to change it either way, it's just a matter of how soon as funds are tight! :/

I dont know when/if the cambelt on my zed has been done since new. Does anyone know what would the markings be on a 1991 fairlady factory belt? Just so I know if it's has a change at any point. Seriously obscure question I know.. Also what's the cheapest place to buy a full kit? Thanks Oli

OK cheers for the help. I was unsure cus I assumed they'd be pretty bomb proof. The motor does feel a little rough when you spin it.. The odometer it's self seems to work fine if you wind it by hand. I wonder if a breaker will break me an odometer motor :p lol.

So my odometer has worked a bit on and off since I bought my zed, then it stopped turning alltogether. I assumed it might have something to do with the mph to kmph conversion so I took the clocks apart and have removed the little device. It still didn't work so I took the odo out and found that part of the trip meter was broken and was jamming the mechanism. I have now essentially disconnected the trip meter by filing off the teeth which mesh with the mechanism. But the odo still doesn't work. I'm thinking maybe the motor has given up the ghost because it's been jammed up? Or maybe in removing the conversion I have missed something out..? Here's a pic of the back of the clocks. I have the odo removed here. Any help would be appreciated..

They look of a slightly different construction but aesthetically they look the same and I would bet the little spool is the same diameter.. Are you just teasing me with these? What does foc mean? Lol.
