  1. Scratch the last comment. Took the car out today and now its running rough. I'm gonna try to sell it cheap. Hopefully a mechanic will want it or something, I really cant afford to throw money at it.
  2. Ok, i've been reading up. Im going to get the PCV valves changed first (Whatever they are :P ) On another thread someone mentioned that the ring problem usually comes with smoke AND bad running. My engine runs smooth, no problems, so i'm hoping its not that. Also Glenn mentioned on another thread that you can test if its the turbo seal by giving the car a good blast, if it clears up for a day or two its probably the seal? Are there any specialists I can take the car to? I'm guessing that specialists would have this problem no end, and could find and fix the problem much quicker and cheaper than a normal garage, that probably dont know the car?
  3. Sorry glen, i was writing my last reply as you posted yours by the look of it. Quoted from my MOT refusal (They restested and it pass, so the car got through) its a dense blue smoke. But i'de say it was more white than blue, it has a tinge of blue though. I dont know what you both mean by PCV valves, but I remember there being a help thread on this site, so i'll go ahead and find out :) I'll find out what ring/ring land means too hehe.
  4. Thanks a lot for the reply Gazza. I should have done a search, but I totally forgot to even bother! I'll go ahead and do a search, see if I can find anything else. Then i'll go ahead do what you said. This seal failure on the turbos, does the whole turbo have to be replaced or can you just replace the seal?
  5. BTW, I dont use the car much. In the two years i've had it ive done about 5k miles, to a total of 65k. Surely turbos wont pack up with a mileage this low? I want to sell the car (Cant afford it anymore :( ), and this smoking prob will surely cause probs with that (1 person already said they wouldnt buy it because of the smoking). So I need to get it fixed! Cheers
  6. Hi all, Ive had my 91 tt for 2 years now. Starting around a year ago, the car smokes, sometimes quite severly out of the left exhaust in idle. It's a kind of 'heavy' smoke. Now, I've heard some people say that it could be the turbo's packing up, and im hoping it isnt, thats very expensive to fix right? Is there anything else that could cause this smoking problem? Any help will be appreciated. Cheers.
  7. I'm having real problems with my immobiliser. A month ago the car wouldnt start, dead on key. I went to start her up and the electrics all went out. Turned out to be the immobiliser had died. Got her running again and its been fine for a month, but now the problem has happened again. Getting the car recovered is a real pain. So, does anybody know a garage with a lot of electrics experience in the hertfordshire area? I'de like to take it to somewhere that can gut the alarm and immobiliser and fix it (it's been shoddily installed it seems) All these problems are really making me think about getting rid of the car. Thanks for any help.

If its been standing for that long without being driven its nothing serious. Mine does that if I leave it for a few days and start it up, seems that the longer you leave it, the more smoke you get, and for longer. But dont take my word for it.
  9. Safeways/Morrisons in Tiverton, Devon. Sunday morning. Freaking nice zed btw.
  10. I mentioned smoking on that thread too, but I'm sure now that that was just condensation. I'm taking the car to another garage next week, I took it to one a week or so ago and their diag tools couldnt find a fault. They gave me a number of this other place. I phoned and they say that they arnt sure if their tools will be able to read the car either, and they are going to charge me a min of £45 for the pleasure.
  11. Heres the link to the thread. The problems that I pointed out there have just gotten worse, and the car is bearly drivable now :( Basically, starting problems (intermitent) and cutting out probs. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=53592 Cheers for the reply.
  12. I've had a post here for a while about the problems with my zed. The problems are slowly getting worse and i've been off the road now for weeks. As the zed is my only car im buggered. I cant drive it to zcenter or ztech, one because I dont know if it will make it, and two because I dont have the time. Its a real problem now. Please, does anybody know of a mechanic in the herts/hatfield area that could help me? I really need to sort it out. Cheers if anyone can help.
  13. Hey, I'm just wondering what the Overdrive option in the Auto TT actually does? Also, the power option is self explanitory, but what does the hold selector do? 1 more question... There is a little bit of plastic in front of the 'gear stick' with an orange strip, what is it? hehe. Just trying to get to grips with all the gadgets in the zed :D
  14. Yellow zed parked outside a pub in betweek Petworth and Duncton, west sussex.
  15. hehe I bet. It wasnt wet though, the place in question is just a really smooth surface, almost all cars pulling out wheelspin :D
  16. Took her out for a spin. Pulled out of a notoriously slippy t junction. A bmw pulled around the car that was pulling into my street as I was pulling out so I had to floor it. I pulled the sweetest power slide ever, about 45 degree's for a couple of seconds and then controlled it back into straight and level :D
  17. Hehe cheers. Will do. I And yeh, when shes running well its the best drive ever
  18. She was running fine for a day or two, now shes trying to stall and starting problems again. Really tempremental. But good news! No more smoke! Must have been condensation. Gonna take her down to ztech next week I think.
  19. Cheers for the replies. I took it to a garage today, they ran a diagnostic and checked it over and couldnt find the problem. I'm assuming this means its not something like the head gasket because surely they'de check that first as I told them it was smoking. Shes starting ok now and running well if i keep the revs over 2000. And no sign of smoke today.
  20. The turbo timer is set at 30 seconds, is that a long enough delay.
  21. Well I just took her out, If I keep her revved up over 2000 it doesnt try to cut out (extra brake wear though ay) And shes smoking lots (white) when revved mainly. Garage in the morning :D
  22. Cool, If I dont take it to ztech i'll phone him up. Hey blackmagic, how about using that conzult then? How much is it for a test?
  23. Black Magic.... Im in Hatfield. If you have a conzult nearby I would definately want to use it!!!! :D It tends to smoke all the time, from startup to off. SHes been sitting at the dealer for quite a while, and I havent driven it very much at all, so I hope its condensation. Cheers
  24. Hi. Aswell as the problems I said before shes spewing white smoke. Not loads but quite a lot. I just hope I havent bought a lemon :(
  25. I'de love to take it to ztech, but considering i can hardly get her started let alone move her i cant. The boss at a garage ive used many times says that his two head mechanics are jap lovers, and know a lot about these kind of cars. So for the initial repair, ill take her there. Then later i'de like to take her to ztech and put her on the Conzult. Cheers everyone. I'll keep you posted, and i'll mention your ideas to the mechanic.
