Best way of fitting an engine loom?
Yes, its the main efi loom. I think the new loom is a LHD one though, there seems to be a lot of loom after the grommet. I also can't remember which angle the grommet should come through the bulk head at, if that makes any sense? Can attatch pictures if that helps?

Best way of fitting an engine loom?
Hi everyone. Need a little advice on the best way of fitting an engine and wiring harness. I've almost finished building my TT engine and is getting ready for dropping in the hole. I was wondering if it's easier to fit the new harness to the car or engine first? The inside of the car is completely stripped so there's no heater matrix or dashboard in the way. Any help is greatly appreciated. Stuart

Det sensor bypass
^^^ Just been looking at actual ignition values from a stock z32 and compared them to stock igniton maps. The actual angle in some cases was more than 7 degrees over advanced than stated in the maps for all loading situations in relevance to engine speed

Det sensor bypass
I can't send a PM for some reason :S If the knock sensor isn't connected to the ECU, how can it detect knock? The whole idea behind using ECU's instead of distributors is that the optimum values can be calculated to suit engine and enviromental conditions. An engine management system that has ignition inputs will surely advance ignition angles to an extreme if the knock sensor isn't providing a signal in reference to pinking. When the ignition angle reaches a threshold, the ECU will have to refer to its base settings/maps.

Det sensor bypass
How can two wires and one sensor cause so much controversy? A knock sensor has one purpose...to detect knock/pinking which is caused by pre-detonation. It is self monitoring system to protect the internals of the engine. Pinking can be caused by a handful of variables such as incorrect fuel or a ignition angle that is excessively advanced. By replacing the sensor with a resistor that matches the resistance of the knock sensor will erase the fault code stored in the ECU. The engine will not run on safety boost. However, under certain conditions, the ECU will advance the ignition angle excessively, as the knock sensor circuit is effectively open loop, where there is no feedback from the sensor as it has been replaced with a resistor. This over advance of ignition angle can hinder performance.

Cambelt
What kind of help are you after? I live roughly 90 minutes from you and could replace your cambelt for you. These cars aren't cheap to repair though. Once you get in there you'll probably find that the belt rollers and tensioners will need replacing along with a water pump etc...

Smoke from oil dip stick
Can you feel any pressure behind the dip stick or oil filler neck? A compression test is a good indication on engine condition however, a cylinder leakage test can provide much more information on the internals of your engine. What grade and type of oil did you use when you changed it?

Anyone know
I'd like to know too! I ordered £800 worth of parts from them in January and they still haven't arrived and failed to return my emails and calls. I've tried cancelling my payment with the credit card company I used but they they it has been more than 45 days since the purchase and there's little they can do. Any suggestions?

Auto or manual turbos?
Hi. Currently carrying out an auto to manual conversion. I'm lifting out the engine also. I have a 1990 J spec auto TT I understand that the auto turbo's are different to the manuals, presuming the auto's are smaller so they spin up faster. Is it worth changing the auto tubs for manual ones?

Think i got a vaccum leak grr
Hi. I have a vacuum gauge and a conzult. I'm a technician by trade and own a Z32. Could come and have a look at your running fault if you like? I live in Macclesfield which is about an hour away.

Valve Timing?
Hi. About to rebuild my Z32 but before I do I'm just doing some research. I can't seem to find any information on setting the valve timing. I replaced the cambelt several months ago using the timing marks on the casings and sprockets. Are the camshaft sprockets dowled to the camshafts or do you have to set them up using a DTI?

Tuning zed TT on the fly with Conzult
You can alter ignition angle and injector dwell whilst conzult has dialogue with the engine ECU but is purely designed for diagnostic purposes. Pretty much wasting your time trying to perfrom performance mods, sorry.

vacuum pipe locations
Had this problem myself, which idiots drew the diagrams with a felt tip pen? I managed to work mine out using the N/A diagram. I'd take some pictures of mine but it's in a bigillion pieces again :( *Wonders if I should of labeled the pipes again*

Got a feeling this is going to be expensive...
Today was a bad day. Feeling bored when I got in from work this evening, I decided to check the boost pressure on my Z32. As to my dissapointment, I'm only getting 5 PSI at full throttle. After a brief conversation with Mike Feeney (who was very helpful) I inspected turbo pipes and intercoolers for splits and damage. Noticed the N/S intercooler was damaged at the top and could be leaking :( Removed front bumper and intercooler. To my suprise and horror, a washer and several chunks of metal fell out of the inlet side to the cooler. I think they're remains of a turbo spindel but not completely sure yet, haven't had chance to pull it to pieces more. Anyone had any similar problems?

VIN number
Thanks for that :D Car's earlier than i thought.

VIN number
Hey. Potentially stupid question....how do I determine the year of my Z32 via the vin number?

Spring restoration show
Hi. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any Z32's attending the restoration show in Warwickshire this Sunday as i could really do with having a look at some vac pipes etc. to piece mine back together. Thanks.

knock sensor
Thanks for the tip on lowering the gearbox. I'll try and remember that tomorrow night when i go in guns blazing :D However, a knock sensor is an ignition sensor, nothing to do with valve control. It senses 'pinking' on an over advanced ignition angle. Without it, when the ignition advance comes off map, theres no fail safe to prevent pinking and over heating of the engine.

knock sensor
LOL I'm totally against letting an ecu ignoring one of the most important sensors on an engine in regards of not blowing itself up! Surely engine removal isnt necessary for knock sensor replacement?

knock sensor
ok, thanks. Thats what the resistance is on mine :| Might be heading towards an ECU *sobs*

knock sensor
Hey. My ConZult arrived on saturday morning :D What a great tool, highly reccomended. I have a knock sensor fault. Checked and re-checked wiring loom for continuity. Found breaks here and there so I by-passed the lot. Fault still there. Fitted a porsche knock sensor to the inlet manifold and connected into my new loom. Still doesnt work. Does any one know the resistance of an operational z32 tt knock sensor? Any help mostly appreciated.

I'd like a gear stick?
Hi. I currently own a z32 twin turbo fairlady. I'm pondering about replacing the auto box with a manual, obviously having to fit a flywheel, clutch, master and slave cylinder, pedal box and gear stick + trims. I am a motor technician by trade and unafraid of manual labour! Cost is a slight issue but i really hate P R N D 2 1 !!!! Im certain this has been done before, does anyone have an idea on cost for the project and any other parts that i would require? Any suggestoins are greatly appreciated/ Thanks

speedo's packed up...
Hi, I am also having speedo faults. Could you please tell me the location of the sender and converter?
