Well i drove through today and had a proper look over the 300, the rear left does look to have abit too much negative camber as you spotted ;) .. the guy could not say what was the reason, is this what happens when the bushes are needing replaced ? ... the other side was fine. It is the 300 that was at Dicksons of Perth, this place now has had it in twice on trade ins, this being the 2nd time, some old guy was its last owner. The body work seemed ok, needs a good polish and hoover inside but looks like it will come up ok, the door cards are pretty grubby mind !!! (why present a car your trying to sell this way ??? ) The guy had to jump start it as it had not been started in over a month, intitally it was abit tappy but it did quietin down, she was'nt smoking and sounded fine. The idle was low though, tickin over at just above the 5k mark, and when sitting inside the car on idle it felt as though the car was shaking a wee abit, it certainly was'nt smooth as the buyers guides say it should be, although the engine seemed to be ticking over without any uneveness ?? .. could be down to the idle being too low !!! Im assuming the injectors are meant to be heard ?? ... I could'nt get a test drive as he said i need to book it, plus the car was at the back of the lot and had others cars blocking its way out. He did give me a strange look when i told him if i booked a test drive i would want at least 30 mins in it, i think he thought i was being necky .. lol ... (the last zed i went to see the guy only let me drive it for 5 mins and that was it !!! lol ) ... Anyways, this car has absolutly no mod cons apart from air con, no climate control, no cruise control, no boost gauge and no leccy seats, so that along with that rear wheel being suspect might just make me look elsewhere im afraid. Thanks for your previous help before all on this Zed .. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/645355.htm On my way back home from work i very quickly nipped in by just as the place was closing and had a shifty round the car ... The seat look like zed seats but they are neither tweed nor velour, they are a black fabric with 300zx stitched into the backreast .. is this the seats that went into the late zed's ? .. The unit where the digital display for the climate control is just seems to have a heater switch that turns from settings 1 to 4 .... im assuming this model does not have climate control then ?? .. It seems the later these cars were made the less mod cons they got, no boost gauge for the turbo, seats look pretty basic. Also, im not to sure this has only done 40K !! .. the drivers seat bolster is not worn through as such but it just looks like its seen more than 40k of wear .. are the seats known for getting abit ragged quickly and maybe its fine ?? The drivers window has deep scratches on the outside running from top to bottom, you know the kind of scratches from when a window has been going up and down but normally you see them on really old cars !! .. if i bought the car the window would need to be replaced ... Also im a great believer in 1st impressions, and when you walk up to it and some of its tyres are flat kinda starts ruining it for me straight away !! Anyways, be interested to read your thoughts on what iv wrote, you think im being abit to catious and thats just the way these cars are or should i just keep away ?? .. Thanks ;)

Totally agree Richard ... and that is something i have given alot of thought too ... if i buy it i know i wont get my money back, nowhere near it.

Hi .. Its not often a good 300zx turns up on my doorstep for sale, so i may pop along and have a look at this car ... just curious as to what some of you think of the price tag ? ... I know its worth what im prepared to pay and all that but i just want to double check that its not grossly over priced .... although it is a low mileage .... the garage says it has fully documented history from Japan ... It is a manaul box and aswell as the tracker it has a CAT1 alarm, the guy says it has traction control but i was'nt aware that any model 300zx had traction control ??? ... http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/645355.htm Much appriciated ... ;)

Yeah its was a private plate, its an N reg. Unfortunatly the vicor has kept the private plate and its now back on its normal reggy .. haha

Well i went and had a look and test drive of the car and was'nt overly impressed tbh. Its a 1996 series 2 and the garage is wanting £4995 which i think at that price it needs to be top end of the scale in condition, which it was'nt. Dont get me wrong the car is generally ok and im keeping in mind its 13 years old but the condition did'nt reflect the price in my opinion and the salesman just was'nt gonna budge. Its not got cruise control and it did'nt have the boost gauge built in to the speedo, the short test drive i got it on (no way he was gonna let me drive it for 60 minutes) i discovered the rear end is making a noise as if a rear wheel bearing has gone, over 60mph there is a slight wheel wobble, and in 2nd gear only it made a very slight what i can only discribe as a "dry" noise ... as if something needed oiling ... but not in the other gears. It seemed to pick up fine, i mean i got to 80mph in the blink of an eye but without a boost gauge its hard for me to tell if it was boosting properly as im led to believe that even in safety mode they are quick. The front brake discs and pads need renewing along with the rear pads aswell, and it looked like it aint been waxed in a long time, i know that this is only cosmetic but 1st impression's and all that ....... I came away thinking that i could tell i had been driving a 13 year old, although im thinking that had more to do with the fact that its not had any tlc for a while and that i need to go in one thats been cared for by a loving member and see the difference. One lesson i have learnt today is that no matter how many buyers guides and reviews i have read this past while, i was still out my depth today and decided that you really do need one of you guys there for your invaluable experiance and knowledge in these cars, i lost count of the amount of times i was asking myself .. "do they all do that ??? " .. and its just to big a gamble if i get it wrong. One thing that made me laugh though, was it was last owned by a vicor and its number plate was J33SUS .. giggle giggle.

According to one of the lists, the 1996 twin turbo model did'nt get a boost gauge !!! .. or am i just reading it wrong ??

Hi guys .. Im hopefully going to look a 300tt on Saturday, its a garage sale. The car is nearly the exact spec and colour i have been waiting for. Its a 1996 model, appears to be totally standard, i have read the buyers guide's and tips but i was just wondering if there is any tips you guys would like to give me for when i go to look at it ?? Im presuming no as i have not seen anything but thought i would ask anyway .. lol ....... Its just if you were could i gatecrash and maybe meet some of you and get some tips for when i find the right 300 for myself that was all. No worries if not ;)
