300ZX DRIFTER

Update for the rpm symptoms. The revs will go all the way now but when I reach full boost the throttle cuts off and then I need to move my foot of the pedal and depress to accelerate. The problem started to happen after my car come out of the garage. I had two 02 sensors and a maf fitted. Any ideas?

I have a new one fitted, starts and drives like a dream but just cuts out around 4000rpm. It's not an original one, aftermarket maf. Do you think this is why it is cutting out? I was told to tune the engine once the maf was installed. What part and how will it be tuned?

I then depress the pedal and she drives fine, as if I am driving a manual car. The engineer could not find a fault when he connected the ZX to his diagnostics device. He said maybe the spark plugs need changing. Any ideas?

Failed it's mot on front discs and pads. Regarding the rpm not going past 2500, could not test the emissions. My local garage said it is the maf, waiting for new one to arrive. Will update you guys when the problem is solved.

My Z32 will not pass 2500 rpm, and on very low fuel it can cut out around corners. The funny thing is that my car cut out on the same bend on different days 3 times. I have changed the fuel filter but had no luck. Do you think it may be the air flow meter? Regards Dil

Was wondering if this was normal. My 300ZX twin turbo does around 22mpg on the mototway and around 13mpg in town doing short journey's. I have an air fuel ratio gauge installed and gives a reading just over the rich point when in town and not so rich on the motorway. The 02 sensors are OEM not wideband. Any suggestions.

Little confused with the boot switch. I cut the wire and the end from the switch is negative but the other end that connects to the interior and boot light reads positive. Thats why my alarms door trigger feature was not working. I have connected the alarms wire directly to the boot switch without the wire from the interior light and the alarm worked fine. Any one had this problem?

Probably that's why my alarm is not activating as it should.

Does anyone know if the boot switch is a ground or positive type swich. Connected it to my alarm which needs a ground signal for the door open feature. The alarm is not responding when it's armed and i open the boot or doors. Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply mate. Just been on a websight that sells gauges and there manual states that it will be ok to install a switch in between the two sensors.

Just wanted to confirm how to fit a AFR gauge as the Z has two oxygen sensors. Do i install a manual switch to toggle between the left & right sensor as the gauge only has one signal input? Cheers.

Well no look once again. Had the ECU out today and took off the scotch connection from the rpm signal and retaped into the signal. My plasma still is not getting the signal and when i use a multimeter it only measures in mA not volts. Please can anyone help.

Not having any luck with the rpm signal from the ECU, no current detected by my multimeter but my standard tachometer works fine. Does anyone know how to connect the tachometer gauge to the negative terminal of the ignition coil?

Does anyone know what voltage reading the rpm signal should have whilst idling? Need to confirm that pin No7 on the ECU is working fine.

Just to add the colour of the rpm wire connecting to the ECU is green with silver dots where as others have yellow with red stripes. My Z is an import. May be the scotch connector has not contacted the wires.

Just fitted an after market led plasma tachometer but having a problem with the data. Powers up fine and does a self test but no signal from pin number 7 from the ECU which should be the tach signal. Also tested the signal wire with a multimeter and measures only in mA. Any advice lads?

Thanks for the reply mate. Bit of a pain getting to the fan that's why I was looking for a shortcut but now I have found the wire. It's connected to the fan relay.

Spent hours installing the alarm and can't be bothered taking it back out. Gona give it a try see if it is any good but I still need that wire from the aux fan. I need to tap in between the aux fan and the switch for current sensing. Anyone know an easy way of getting to it?

The alarm is a Sparkrite which was brought from Halfords. The manual says to connect the wire to the electric fan so that it doesn't trigger off the alarm if the fan kicks in. I'm sure the Z does have a secondary fan infront of the rad. Any advice how to connect the wire please?
