  1. Sorry to hear about this mate. I used to work for a recovery company and they had the contract with the local police for recovery of accident damaged, stolen recovered cars and soco cases - the contract states that the recovery company has to be on scene within 20 mins and for that reason the police will not entertain letting you arrange your own recovery as they would be tied up at the scene longer. I left a couple of years ago so my prices may have changed since then but the costs were standard across the UK and the companies with the police contract charged £120 recovery cost plus £12 per day storage...and you weren't allowed to pick your car up at weekends but were charged for storage for those days. In most cases people just sign the car over to the recovery company and that settles the bill, they sell them on to local dismantlers.
  2. I was thinking that it was the engine saying goodbye (the car has done 130k and as far as I know it is the original engine) but then remembered about adding the oil so I'm hoping its just that, prob be the weekend before I get round to checking the breather pipes for blockages so fingers crossed :sweatdrop:
  3. Cheers mate, I checked the level yesterday and it is right on the max but not above, I'll try to get the pipes off to clear them out tonight then. Cheers
  4. Howdy chaps, I thought my daily driver was ready to die on me because the oil filler cap is popping off when the engine is running...I lost it briefly when the bonnet was up, took me 5 mins to find it on the pavement up the road!! Anyway its just dawned on me that I chucked some oil in it a couple of weeks ago and haven't really used it since then due to the snow, I'm now thinking that I've put too much oil in :stupid: I've checked the level and it is sitting right on the max, it must have been above this because some spilled over engine bay when I was driving it. I'm thinking that I may have blocked the breather pipes, will releasing some oil clear these or will I have to remove them to clear them/replace them as well as draining some oil? Cheers in advance for any response.
  5. probably to do with increased likelyhood that policyholder will be driving during the day when previously (presuming the car wasn't insured for work use) the insurer knew that at least 8 hours a day the car would be stationary. Or perhaps its just a tactic to remove you from their books as the chances of someone without a job defaulting on payments has got to be higher and in the current climate they may not want that risk.
  6. This may be a re-post, because I know I was emailed it a few times over the years - Onboard an M5 racing Audi RS4 in Russia, some seriously tight moments -
  7. I would have loved somebody to test out his reaction times by changing lanes in front of him!
  8. £2450, L reg, Manual...that's about all it says and it don't have a pic
  9. Well there is a Mitsubishi 3000GT with LPG conversion on AT just now within budget :)
  10. Cheers guys, I know its a real mixed bag I picked!! I dont do many miles, prob 8-10k per year, the zed is used for weekends and the occasional work trip when the weather is right and the budget is around the £3k mark. I suppose the problem is that I want a bit of everything, the sensible side of me says it should be something reliable since its meant to be a daily driver but at the same time I couldn't live with something that will be boring to drive, the Lotus came into play because there is a repaired cat D going for pennies and I've been an admirer for some time, the Fiesta because its probably the most sensible choice and I remember being in one a few years ago and it stuck to the road like a gokart, the others just caught my eye because there were decent ones at reasonable money but I have no experience of any of them. The one I'm ditching is a Mrk2 xr2 so I've never really had a reliable daily driver, just juggle between the zed and the xr2
  11. I think my daily driver is on its way to the big scrap yard in the sky...the oil filler cap is popping off itself! I'm not mechanically minded but that build up pressure sounds like it's more than likely going to be terminal, and it gave me an excuse to start looking for something else anyway! I've been looking online and shortlisted a few decent examples but they vary greatly by type as I haven't been shopping for a car for a couple of years. Any thoughts on these cars in general if you have previously owned any? 1990 Lotus Ellan M100 Turbo 2003 MG TF 1.6 2003 Fiesta Zetec 1. 2000 Lexus IS 200 SE 2002 Vectra LS
