  1. Sad but true. :( I'm in Brisbane for a few weeks, and I went to the Rugby League match last weekend. On the way back, I saw a red zed coming in the opposite direction, with a red nudge bar on the front! It was a simple round-section bar, probably one inch diameter, and bent to come up from under the bumper (which was mashed on the driver's side anyway). Looked a bit like the nudge bar at the bottom of this page http://www.blueys.com.au/acc_bullbars.htm, but more weedy (only one inch diameter) and looked like it had been painted with a brush. Ceejay, if I get back and find that you've put one on my car, I won't be happy! :D I didn't get a photo because I wasn't fast enough with my phone I was too distressed
  2. I know sod all about the mechanics of it, but if it's all about the looks rather than the performance, does that mean you'll just drive the car somewhere and park up, so that passers by will admire it (without hearing it)? If so, how much would you really save on the cost of driving it to wherever you park it? How long will it take to break even? On the other hand, if you intend to drive it around as a mobile advertsement, I can see that it might take less time to break even. But would it really have the effect you're hoping for? I think a fair number of people would watch (and hear) you drive by and say "that company doesn't even maintain its own cars. The thing sounds like shit." From your perspective, there's nothing negative in having a 300 that sounds like a diesel, and you understand why you're doing it. But, for most people who see & hear it, they won't understand and they won't be thinking "he's done a diesel conversion to save fuel costs". They'll just think your car is knackered or poorly maintained. That can't be the effect you're after. If you did get the diesel conversion, have you calculated how many miles you'd have to drive before you broke even? And bear in mind the effect on its re-sale value. If you ever wanted to shift it, you'd probably have to break it, or sell it as a "no drivetrain" car, or keep it til it rots away. Like I said, I know nothing about the mechanical issues. Sorry if it sounds negative, but I just see too many reasons why the idea might backfire on you.
  3. Yep, I second that. Even though both of them ticked me off for not keeping my car clean. :)
  4. OK, just checked. Code 34 (det sensor, which I knew about) and code 11 (CAS)...
  5. BTW, Fairladygirl, if you want I can do yours for you / show you how. I'm always driving between Leeds & Sheffield, so I presume I pass somewhere near you if you're in South Yorks. I know I'm only a newbie on here, so I don't mind you bringing mates to make sure I'm not a stalker. :D
  6. I used gutter sealant on mine. Basically, lifted the rubber seal that goes along the top of the targa opening, cleaned the dirt out with a toothbrush, dried it off, ran a thick bead of gutter sealant along it (don't block the drainage holes!) and pressed the rubber back down. It's completely stopped the rain entering on the passenger side. It did the same on the driver's side until a couple of weeks ago, when it started dripping again. But I think that's only because I didn't put enough sealant on. A job for me this weekend, but it only takes 5 minutes.
  7. Thanks, I'll give that a go. Probably this weekend. Ollie - there were none about a month ago, but I'll try again this weekend.
  8. Yep. Already done that chief (I'm a mod on another forum, so I always try to search before I post questions and wind up the regulars. :) ). I couldn't really find something that matched those symptoms (although I did suspect the MAF for the wet weather trouble). Maybe I'm too much of a numpty. But I'll keep searching.
  9. I didn't at the time, but I got one fitted a couple of weeks ago. A Blitz from Z Centre. It hasn't p*ssed down since I got the new filter on, but hopefully you're right and the new filter will cure it. Thanks Scubie. Anybody else? :D
  10. Hi everyone. I've spent enough time lurking on here. It's time to come blinking into the daylight... I'll try to contribute some useful stuff (not that I know much about anything), but for now I'm asking for advice. My car has a couple of problems. 1 (fairly consistent) - driving along at constant speed, boost needle is just under the half way mark, revs showing just under 3000rpm (between 2800 & 3000), speedo showing just under 80. I get a slight misfire. Not much, but annoying. As soon as I squeeze the accelerator, it stops spluttering and accelerates smoothly. All on private roads, of course. 2 (rare) - happened to me twice, both times in heavy rain on motorways. The first time was just before Christmas and scared the sh*t out of me! Driving along the motorway, rain was absolutely pissing down, and suddenly there was a huge mechanical shock that went through the whole car. I thought something solid in the drivetrain had just broken and jammed. But the car kept going fine. A few seconds later, it happened again. And several more times. (Imagine your car is attached to a big building by a big hefty chain. You drive along happily until the chain reaches its full extension, and then breaks. That's how it felt - imagine it was a beefy chain and you'll get the idea of the shock that went through the car.) So I pulled off the motorway and took the urban roads the rest of the way home - about 5 miles. After I came off the motorway, there were no more of the shocks (although I was still sweating all the way home). The car is 1990 Jspec TT auto. No significant engine mods. Just a free-flowing exhaust. Knock sensor hasn't worked since I got the car about 8 years ago, but I always use high octane petrol and haven't ever heard any pinking (except a couple of times when I first got the car, and put ordinary unleaded in it). Erm, can't think of anything else. Any ideas? I'm guessing they're two different problems. Thanks everyone.
  11. This might be irrelevant but, a few years ago I had the PTU symptoms. Took it to a Nissan dealer & they put a new PTU in (but it was a Series 1 PTU - I didn't know any different at the time). 6 weeks later, the problem was back, so I presumed it wasn't the PTU (even though it had all the normal PTU symptoms). Took it to a few different places & spent plenty of money replacing other stuff - obviously it made no difference. I ended up buying another car while my 300 just stood in the garage, pissing me off. After several years, I heard about the Series 2 PTU and got one from Luke last year. Problem solved, and the car is fine. :D So, long shot - was your new PTU a series 1 or 2?
