On the face of it a nice Slicktop but....
It does look nice in the pictures, does anyone know what steering wheel that has, been looking for something aftermarket and that does look nice to me.

Thermostats
Plus I really would not want to be driving a 300zx around with overheating problems, the stock temp guage is notoriously rubbish and the engine easily damaged.
-
Thermostats
A much better explanation of what I was trying to say, not sure there is much point in doing all this and using a duff radiator, if you think this one is blocked and the other leaks probably best to either get a new one, second hand can get you out of a mess but is usually a false economy in the end.

Thermostats
I still think you have air in the system, if its not loosing water at any of the pipes I doubt air is getting in there so you just need to get the air out thats already in there, I think you said about raising the car earlier in the thread so you already know to have the front end higher, if it was me I would drain the whole system, fill it up slowly whilst the front is raised, run the engine and if needed gently squeeze the pipes to help any air get out of the system.

Thermostats
You can check the thermostat by putting it in a saucepan of water on the hob, heat it up and see if it opens at the correct temperature, that will either rule out the thermostat or show thats the problem, my first thought would be an air lock in the system as thermostats are pretty reliable and you have drained the system recently.

Mileage when changing clocks
My own personal preference would be to just use the UK milometre without changing it, this is based on the fact that once you change them the numbers never line up 100%, most people would not noticed but someone in the know would be able to tell its been tampered with, also these cars are all getting on in years and not many imports have guarenteed mileage on arriving anyway so who knows what it might actually be.

TPS Fault ???
Update in case anyone searches for this and needs help. As stated I ruled out every other option so as Jeff stated it was a case of rewiring the TPS which I did and cured the problem straight away this alone is a fairly simple task, at first glance the wiring looked to be in ok condition but I found that while the engine was running if I moved the ECU a little the engine began to run very badly, it seemed very likely that somewhere in the harness between ECU and bulkhead there were problems, this became even more apparent while driving, with everything bolted back in driving over a bump would cause running issues, thinking it was possibly a bad connection somewhere I went to clean up / check all connections and this is where I found out how bad the harness condition was and decided to fit a new EFI harness, expensive but very much worth it.

Mileage when changing clocks
I have changed a few sets of clocks over and found that when you do that the car speed reads in MPH but if you use the origional milometre it will still go up in Kilometres so you would need to use the UK milometre and adjust it to read the correct mileage.
-
Mileage when changing clocks
You could take each dial out from your origional unit and put them into the UK housing and it will work perfectly with no need to solder new plugs, as for changing the mileage its very simple if you look at it once taken apart.

Arrrrggghhhhh !!
Got mine from Z1, thanks for the heads up on the connector, I have taken a good look and most connections seem pretty obvious, also not sure if they are all the same but mine did not have any labels saying which wire was for which cylinder so I have gone round with a multi meter and labelled them myself, even my old loom had the labels on each cylinder from 20 years ago.

Arrrrggghhhhh !!
Yes new EFI harness going on in the morning !
-
Arrrrggghhhhh !!
The good news is it plain sailing from here on, all the connectors are cleaned, just a case of threading the blue connector through the bulk head, connecting everything up under the bonnet and fingers crossed it fires up first time :scared:
-
Arrrrggghhhhh !!
Correct and I never want to do one again !
-
Arrrrggghhhhh !!
Certainly does, I spent the whole time upside down in the passenger footwell with my arms bent in ten places to get behind the Air con unit.
-
Arrrrggghhhhh !!
Just spent a couple of hours removing this,....... does anyone recognise it and if you do then you will understand why I spent the whole time either swearing, crying or bleeding !! Worst job ever.

Targa drain pipe diameter
Hi all, does anyone know the diameter of the pipe for the targa drain tubes, the ones that go down into the front footwell? I think these must shrink with age, mine no longer reaches the connection at the bottom so want to buy some pipe and sort it.

TPS Fault ???
Ok I have ruled out the TPS and the ECU being the fault so now it seems the only option left is to rewire the TPS, has any got any tips for me, I am reasonablly confident with a pair of wire cutters and soldering iron, I am fed up of the car sat there so hope to get it done this or next weekend depending on the weather.
-
TPS Fault ???
I believe it to be the ECU, have checked out all the wiring as best as possible using the info Groover gave and also from a couple of other websites, I am just waiting delivery of an ECU and will see what happens, if not then its off to Zedworld as I have exhausted all my own ideas on the subject.
-
TPS Fault ???
Thank you for the info groover, I would definately prefer to take it to Jeff only problem I have now is the car is undrivable so would have the added expense of trailering the car to him on top of repairs, having just moved house this is an expense I really did not need

TPS Fault ???
Ok, I have been playing with the car this morning and not getting wound by it at all, staying perfectly calm and not kicking it in frustration !! I can adjust one TPS from 0.9 to 1.12 the other from 0.9 to 1.08, have checked the wiring and there are no visible signs of damage or chaffing, had a quick look at the ECU just to make sure there were no obvious problems there like water getting in and all looks fine. The only thoughts I have now are swapping the TPS for a new one and then perhaps the ECU for a second hand unit, then if that fails a trip to Zedworld. Jeff in your opinion would you say thats a good idea or am I just wasting time and money and I should just get it to you ?
-
TPS Fault ???
Thanks Jeff, where would you suggest I start to try and solve the problem? I took the car for a spin and its gear changes are all over the place now I guess because I have moved the TPS and can no longer find the correct point again. Local garages usually say no when they see the car and it may be if I can get it drivable I have to bring it to you as I have no idea where the wiring goes from the TPS to replace it.

TPS Fault ???
Hello everyone, I was checking my car over with conzult and came across a fault I am not sure about so hoping someone here may be able to help. The TPS was showing 0.90 volts, spec should be around 0.42 so I tried to adjust but it wont go any lower, my first thought was a faulty TPS so I swapped it for another which was working fine when removed but this also only goes to 0.90 volts as well, have I been unlucky with 2 bad TPS sensors or is there another cause you may know about ? Also I am not sure if this is related but when using conzult with the engine running if I try to open the idle adjustment section it causes the engine to faulter and die, I am sure it did not do this before? am I missing something obvious or is it just down to a faulty TPS ?

Top speed na/auto
I have hit 140 in mine and pretty sure it would go further if I had enough straight road.

Yet another alloy wheel question
Hi all, I have been offered some alloys from a Skyline, they are 8.5 front and 9.5 rear, ET30 all round, I know they will physically fit but will they fill arches and clear the calipers ok, its the ET30 part I am not sure about and wondered if ideally they would also need spacers, any help guys ???? :confused1::confused1::confused1:
