  1. Hey Snoopy, I've just noticed in your sig... Thats my Starlet Glanza in the background, Devon Car Show? I did walk round your car as well as the others next to you. Many thanks again guys.
  2. OK guys thanks for the advice, ive got another car to run around in so I may keep this on garaged for a bit till I can afford the rapairs. Oh what a bother! lol. Thanks again
  3. Thought so... What about a bit of radweld or similar to stop it?. I think I read that stuff aint wise to use, should I give it a try?. Also can I use any anti-freeze to top up the coolant, 50/50 mix innit? Thanks again for the help!
  4. Guys, i've had the car almost a week now, a few days ago there was a small drip going onto the passenger footwell mat. Its getting a little worse and it feels like a slimey/watery substance, also I often get alot of misting inside the windscreen and its feckin hard to get off, had to take me shirt off and proper rub down on the screen to get it off! The drivers footwell seems ok, a little damp but probably where I cleaned the mats up when I first got the car. The passenger footwell leak seems to be dripping off the foot vent holes that are held in by one screw. Help me out here, thanks guys! James
  5. Darkside... yeah that would be awesome. Are they UK clocks then fella? ...OK, had the car serviced today by a good mechanic I know. I did write down and request Silkolene fully synth 10-40. I returned to find he put 'CarLube' 5-40. Hmmm... should I worry? Car seems to run fine. He found that the power steering fluid was low, he topped this up and now strangly, the power steering works fine for a few minutes before it gets heavy although not completely, its like its not on at all while driving and when stationary its light enough to turn the wheel. Also the hicas light comes on after 5 mins too? Any ideas, until I switch the car off and on again its fine for another 5 mins. He found that my steering rack was leaking too. Also he found the cause of the problem for my smoking situation. My rear main seal is breaking up, he said as I give it some revs, the oil is pissing out in between the engine and gearbox and onto the turbo hence the smoke. Does that sound right? He reckons if I supplied a new main seal and steering rack/ rack seal. He can fix the lot for £350. Any feedback most appreciated, wheres the best place I can get these parts without going to a main dealer? Also will I need a new steering rack or can I get the seal thats gone on its own. Many thanks guys, im really enjoying the car. The misses and I were cruising through the country lanes with the tops off on the way to the garage, was lovely!
  6. Set of 'locks'? Sorry fella I dunno what you mean lol?
  7. Good stuff thanks for the info. Looks so far that my Z doesnt have the blinds, the previous owner didnt know they existed. I will post pictures of my Z tommorow with a decent camera i'll borrow off me old man. My current 150 quid jobbie doesnt bring out the red vey well lol. My Z is a fairlady (import) LWB twin turbo. Mods that came with the car are Janspeed fitted custom exhaust, Blitz induction kit and twin HKS dump valves. Thanks again guys im off to bed. Im shattered after a long day of driving 600 miles.
  8. Thats fantastic guys i'm so pleased with the quick response. So my turbos are definately ok then? Is Magnatec 10-40 a good oil to use? If not then what else do you guys recommend as the car is gonna be serviced tommorow. Also where are the glass tops meant to be stored and also should they normally have clip on blinds? Thanks again!
  9. Hi guys, Recently I posted up a thread regarding the collection of a 300ZX far away and I was asking for some advice on what to look out for etc... So... I give the guy the cash and drove the beast away, an immediate smile on my face, the purring V6 is fantastic, never driven an auto before and it was bliss. 50 miles later my pants started to fill, I gave it a little bootfull and the worst I could think of happened... The engine was misfiring like a biatch and there was no power, I sruggled to the top of the hill absolutely bricking myself (my parents were behind me) as I came to a slow halt. I looked under the hood and gave it a blip on the throttle, it was lumpy and there was light smoke belowing from the back of the engine bay. AA came out sharpish, look under the bonnet and spotted that one of the coil leads came loose from the plug, the clip was missing. Swiftly he cable tied it back on and it felt like the heavens were looking down on me and I raised my hands high. FANSPASTIC!! I was on the road again. Along the way I noticed a few things, the speedo was stuck at 0 and after 200 miles it erraticly shook and came to life. The HICAS light came on at the start of the journey, shortly it turned itself off, and then on again after I broke down, then off for 100 miles and then on again, and stayed on for the last leg of 100 miles. Any ideas? Power steering was working fine the whole way. Also the car shook at certain speeds, looks like the wheels were refurbed and the rear wheels have had a new set of tyres. Maybe they weren't balanced? Thats really it, but the one worry I do have after I pulled up at a service station, the car smelt oh so slightly of burnt oil when pulling up. I check under the bonnet and gave it a blip by hand and released after it started hitting boost to find a bit of smoke rising from behind the engine bay again. Immediately I began to fill the other half of my pants again and immediately thought... TURBO/S! But, there is no smoke out the exhausts while driving or stationary as my parents said. Also the turbos boost up perfectly with no spiking or dropping off of full chat. What could it be? Could it be a breather pipe or a hose that not tight enough? Many thanks guys and I appreciate the feedback and advice!!:xxx:
  10. Brilliant thanks, just quickly, what type of oil is best to use? I love the magnatec stuff. but only available in 10-40 and 10-50.
  11. Thanks, ive already looked through that before I bought the car. I wanted to ask quickly, I want to service the car when I get home. Can I use any Castrol GTX Magnatec, if so how many litres? and is a Champion Oil filter ok to use? Also to cure tappet noises etc, is it safe to use the thick STP or wynns oil treatment after I chuck in the new oil? Am I right in thinking that after its been sitting the whole time will the oil be grotty? Many thanks James
  12. Many thanks for the replys so far lads... Tommorow is the day I will be picking up the 300ZX. It will be a 300+ miles trip back home. Does anyone have any advice as to what I should look out, listen or do before I embark on the journey bearing in mind it has been sitting for a long while? Thanks guys.
  13. WOW guys you got back to me so quick, im impressed. Im really liking this forum already. The guy im getting the Z off knows almost nothing about the car, he bought it and stored it basicly and thats it. I looked through the paperwork and the engine was supplied and fitted by a specialist Z garage, cant remember the name, I would have thought an engine swap would involve a cambelt change at the same time. The guy knows nothing about its history more than me, the paperwork shows its been looked after. The auto box oil was clean as it should be. I took a print out of the impressive Z guide you guys mention so that really helped. Im pleased so far that the boost guage reads spot on and there was no smoke at all to be seen, just the little black puff as I let it idle for 10 mins then got the bloke to rev it and it was clear. Stupidly I didn't check under the oil cap. The only mods it has is a custom £1200 janspeed jobbie, blitz indutcion kit and HKS granny-scarers (bovs). I've laid my deposit so i'm having it no matter what now, I just need to know what I should do when I service it ie treatments etc for valve noise etc. Again many thanks guys and thanks for the warm welcome. James :)
  14. Guys... First of all, great forum, loads of great advice on here... Now before I get too enthusiastic over my purchase of a ZX ive just looked at.. Basicly I went to see a 1990 TT Auto thats been sat for nearly a year since its last MoT and respray last october. The guy who isnt at all a jap car enthusiast says he's done only 50miles in the car and has been put away in a garage all year doing regular start ups etc. He's got work, g/f and future kid commitments so it was going dirt cheap. The car is in good shape. He took me out for a 10 minute run but didnt floor it too hard as its been sat. We parked up, I let the car idle for 10mins looking out for any smoke etc. There was no whining and boost pressure on idle and on almost full chat was as it should be. He highly recommended it needs a service since its been sat for a long time and not been driven properly since he got it, I agree... Before I collect the car now i've laid down the deposit my only concerns were the fact that the oil pressure gauge sat at 0 on idle but was moving above 4 when he gave it a moderate throttling. There was no oil pressure light and no noises, the power came in fine. The needle even moved when it was revved even a little bit when static. Wierd?! But other than that the engine seemed to run fine, got the slight smell of fuel on start up and a knocking/tappety noise was apparent (engine lid up) until it was run and brought back home it was pretty silent. Would this be due to where it had been sat? When I pick it up im going to drive slow for the 270 odd miles home, what do you guys suggest I do to the car ie what oil, any treatment etc? The car has nissan service history, 70k miles on the clock (genuine), a replacement engine by a Z specialist priced at £1200 (why would this be?) Im boiling it down to either gunky oil that needs changing or a faulty sender? Advice will be brilliant and expect me to be a paid up member!:) Im coming from a simple MR2 Turbo entusiastic background, this 300ZX seems more sensitive lol I await your feedback! Many thanks James
