yep i no how ya feel there steve its a bloody nightmare sometimes, i mostly lay/sand and polish floors and even direct from the suppliers you gotta check the wood foor damage and stains sometimes:nono::rolleyes:

DO NOT USE ANY LIQUID CLEANERS!! as if you use to much water and do not dry them propperly is with result in a black stain that will go right through the oak floor but this normally happens over a period of time , dry the best you can maybe with a hair dryer like has already been said then a light sand with a 80/100/120 will bring the floor good, should always seal any wood floor and definatley a oak floor as they will stain very easy and you often dont see the stains until you have sealed the floor :)
