Hey guys, First of all, Ive not been on here in quite a long time due to one reason or another but its great to see the site is still as alive and kicking as ever! :clown: One of the reasons Ive not been on here is because my zed has been dead... :thumbdown: The first issue was the turbos and then when i replaced them, the engine just gave up. If i remember correctly something was wrong with the #6 piston having a tantrum and the valves not seating well in #1 cylinder. :helpsmilie: Ive been saving my pennies for a while now while Ive been planning the best course of action. (Heres where I need some advice from you guys). What I plan to do is buy another engine to put in my zed to get her back on the road (I miss her so much! :crying: lol!) With my original engine out and with time to work on it i plan to strip it down and build it back up with a few trick mods added along the way! Question time: 1. Anyone know of any good TT engines that might be being sold in the next couple of months? If so, price? 2. Any advice on potential stumbling points i might hit along the way would be welcomed? 3. Has anyone had this kind of engine problem before? (the zed chucks out alot of white smoke with a hint of blue) Ive seen the symptoms discussed everywhere but I dont think Ive seen it for these problems? 4. What good parts and mods should I get/do to the engine while i have easy access to everything (bypass mods/upgrade parts like injectors, pistons, stroker kit...possibly :shifty: ?/painting suggestions etc). All ideas and advice welcome. Ive got alot of things to sort out and its gonna take time, thing is i dunno where to start lol! Hey, I have the opportunity to buy a front mount intercooler and all the kit required for an easy fit. Only thing is that i dont feel like i know enough about ic's to know if its a good deal of not? So if you could give me your opinions, id greatly apreciate it! :) Heres the details: Front mount intercooler, pipework & silicone hoses for the 89-97 Nissan 300ZX Z32 VQ30DETT by AUTOBAHN88, all years all models. The intercooler core size is a massive 515mm x 210mm x 70mm and has a pressure drop of only 0.2psi @ 15 psi. The intercooler is polished aluminum with a bar and plate design. The pipework is polished aluminum. ABS and air conditioning do no not need relocated or removed. This kit work just like the HKS kit. *Fully polished *Tabs on bottom and top for easy installation *Improved 15 big bar design with offset fins to increase efficiency *Supports more than 650HP *Latest unique bar & blate core design to improve air velocity by 15% over the old design *Ultra low pressure drop 0.5-1psi at 23psi (Normal Bar and Plate 2.8- 4 psi at 23 psi) *35 % weight reduction *The kit will not only dress up your engine bay but will also allow for the much better flow of air in and out of your intercooler maximizing cooling on your 300ZX. Hey guys, A friend of mine has bought tons of silicon vacuum hose of various different IDs for some of his projects and he says i can have as much as i need. Can anyone let me know what i should/could replace, where its is and how much of what diameters i will need. Basically ive got an opertunity to do abit of a tidy up under my bonnet so any tips and tricks that you guys might have would be greatly appreciated too! :hyper: Cheers Draemora

Hey ceejay, that other zed was me mate (if it was a metallic red one that you saw that is) i take it that you were in a metallic yellow zed?? if you were i saw you flash me. It was a pity i was so/too late, but if youve read the rest of this thread youll know that i had my drivers door kicked in last night, but good old jeff at zedworld sorted me out and i fitted it as quick as i could, just not quick enough huh lol! I brought a few of my mates along so it was abit of a fun cruise for me anyway, so it wasnt a wasted trip in my eyes. When the next meet is around my area ill be there with my mates... afew more to add to the pile. See you next time maybe? Oh and sharky, sorry to hear about your zed mate. While is was there i saw a white rover with a huge exhaust, its a long shot, but was that yours?? My zeds back to normal again now, and once again, many many thanks to jeff at zedworld, hes a sound guy.

:eek: :eek: :eek: sorry guys, looks like i might not be able to make it now, i was round at my g/f's and someone tried to nick my zed!! theyve even kicked the door in!! god knows how i didnt hear the alarm but when i went out to unlock it and it beeped four times telling me the drivers door sensor had been triggered, i knew i was in trouble. on the bright side, at least its built like a fortress and didnt get nicked. i was lucky this time... if i sort it out tomorrow morning so that its safe and drivable i might still come to the meet, but it probably wont be a pretty sight, if for nothing else ill be there to meet some new faces and see some cool cars... ill see what i can do... If i do make it tomorrow sharky, ill be the tall chap in a kanackered red zed, theres even fewer of them! lol... :headvswal glad to hear that you got yours sorted though...

My sentiments exactly mate. Lets hope that the weather holds up. My brothers got a zed too, might ask him if he fancies popping along and we'll have abit of a zed get together if nothing else. I take it that yours is back on the road again now. What was wrong with it?? Dont be a stranger, ill be the tall chap in a red zed, see you there.

oh and turbokid, i also went from a civic (1.6 vti) to my zed back in november, it was like going from a pedal cart to a Formula 1 car!! lol! a word of warning though, if youve got a heavy foot be damn careful round them corners, rear wheel drive isnt that much fun if you find yourself going backwards! lmao! All in all you made the best choice mate, you wont regret it.

nice one mate, i dont live too far away so me and a mate will be there in my zed. its always good to see new faces. any idea on people attending and what cars theyre gonna bring?? anything going on, or is it just a 'turn up and chat about cars' meet?? hey guys, my speedo died completely today after doing about 100 miles (mainly motorway driving). My steering became heavier and then my hicas light came on, at this point i pulled over to switch of my engine, leave it for awhile and then start it again hoping it might sort itself out temporarily (enough to get me home). The speedo was still down, but my streering was back to normal again for a short while until i hit faster speeds (60mph maybe??), my hicas light didnt come on again. Also, (i dont know whether this might be related) my revs sometimes drop really low or my engine dies sometimes when pulling upto a junction or after pushing the car a little and putting the clutch in? this has been happening for a couple of weeks now on and off. Ive been told that it might be my speed sensor that needs replacing as all these things are pointing towards a fault with it, but could anyone tell me if 'dry joints' in my speedo (or any of the dash cluster) could be the cause?? would it be worth re-soldering the cluster?? If anyone can give me any other advice on any potential problems and solutions id greatly appreciate it (like possibly resetting the TPS and base idle??). Hi guys, I dont know if any of you can help me out, but iv looked everywhere and i cant find anywhere thatll show me where to put the amp power wire through the bulkhead. Iv removed the battery to see if theres any existing 'holes', there are some but i very much doubt ill be able to get the wire through them?? Any help will be much appreciated as iv presently got my car in bits! lol! Cheers :D

Cheers for your comments guys. I do agree with markzx about the performance side of things. If i had nothing else done to my car, i would make sure that the car could stick to the road first. Especially on a car with this much grunt. Like i said, i want the best i can get for a reasonable price and tire life. Bridgestone or Goodyear tyres seem to be the better choice maybe? Although a 'nearly bald' set of S02's handling better than the rest doesnt seem that appealing to me? LOL!! Im still up for more advice if anyones got some :D Just one more question markzx, correct me if im being stupid, but how would i fit 265's if my alloys are 255's?? Is that not the depth of the wheel?? Or are you just saying that i couldve done with having wider wheels on the back?? Cheers

Oh and one more thing, a mate of mine runs a race team in the US and he runs Toyos coz of their weight, less unspung weight and all that. Do you think it might apply on Toyo road tyres too?? Cheers

Hey guys, First of all, as this is my first thread id like to thank you guys for the info on this site. I bought my first 300zx in December 2007 and this site (amongst others) has really helped me get a good understanding into owning a zed with some sound advice and tips. So once again, thanks :D Now, when i bought my zed, i had the guy put it through an MOT and the car flew through with no problems apart from the tyres. The rears needed changing and the fronts will need changing soon too. To get it through the MOT (and unknowingly to me) the guy had 'budget' tyres fit to the rear. The tyres he bought were Wanli and the ones on the front are Maxxis, Ive not really heard of either of them?? :confused: As the weather has been bad recently (well since iv had it really) and Ive had the back end step out on more than one occasion, Ive decided to replace all the tyres for decent ones. Ive had a look round afew places and asked afew people to try and find out what the best tyres would be for my zed without compromising tyre wear too much (anything above 7000-8000 would be fine), some of the tyres Ive been advised on are: *Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 (or All Season) *Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R (or RE050A Pole Postion) *Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 *Yokohama Advan Neova AD07 etc etc... Some of which i cant even find out where to buy them from??? (Some could be USA only maybe???). As you guys obviously know your cars inside and out, would you please give me some real advice on what i should get? My zeds got a few mods and its pretty quick, i want to get the best tyres i can at resonable cost and tyre life.
