  1. i'm a physicist i know how an engine works more or less and you dont learn anything unless you try, and ive always wanted to get something like this to look at what the ecu is seeing from the sensors in situ. i'm slowly aquiring all the tools i need to work on my car myself but they aint cheap. thanks for you replys tho i think you have made my mind up, i saw them on ebay but i was wondering if you can get them on here.
  2. does anyone know where i can get a wiring loom for the rear window. mine aint got one
  3. i'm quite techy so i think i would be able to work them out, but do they come with instructions and whats the most useful thing you can do with it?
  4. is this any good, i'm thinking bout getting one if they are still up for sale. chris.
  5. i'm stuck? i want to subscribe but i cant pm you my details, to pm you i have to be subscribed. chris.
  6. this is to quavey, the ecu was mapped in england i think, but i was reading some info on octane number and the higher octane number reduces the likleyhood of preignition before the spark, this higher octane fuel is needed when the compression is raised to prevent preignition, but to raise the compression dont you have to change the pistons? so with that reasoning i cant see how using normal unleaded would preignight before the spark or make any difference for that matter unless i upped the compression ratio. any pointers on this to help me understand would be appreciated. cheers chaps. chris
  7. ok heres and update, incase anyone is interested ive checked the plugs and they were black with soot covered over them, i'm assuming this is because the buggered sensor was was making the ecu dump too much fuel. so changed the plugs today (what a chew on having to move the rail above number 6 cylinder) and fired up staright away, idle is still up and down though so when the sensor goes on tomorrow hopefully that will sort the idle. i will also check ecu to see if the code is gone but if it hasnt does that mean i have to get the ecu reset and can that be done manually? hope this helps anyone with tha same symptoms as me. any info on resetting codes pn the ecu would be great,
  8. okidoki, cheers bud.
  9. forgot to say i'm in south shields so not far bout 20 mins away. i'm not suggesting come and see now btw just whenever you have some spare time. cheers chris.
  10. no definitely not there, guy i bought it off he didnt bother putting em back on coz it was tinted and he couldnt see out anyway, hes been a bit slack on the boot which i will have to sort out.
  11. hi all gave the connectors a proper clean, noticed that the yellow plug (after removing all the black rubber) was brown as if it has overheated also the sheath for the wires looks like it has over heated/melted, ive since removed the yellow plug and put a spare one i got off a vectra (fits the same), checked the resistance between terminals on the plug before reconnecting and got about 20k is this right or should it be higher than that? also the guy i bought this car off said that it has a blitz stand alone ecu and recommends super unleaded i didnt know this and ran it on normal unleaded for a couple of days how bad is it using normal unleaded and would you be able to tell? chris
  12. car isnt running at the mo but would def come and have a look. have to be on me bike tho. when are you free?
  13. forgot to say i think my fuel filter may have been put on the wrong way round? is there any pics and what orientation it should be? cheers. chris.
  14. thanks for all your help chaps, been on the phone to zedworld, guy was very freindly and helpfull, ordered a new sensor, and fuel pressure sender as mine is reading wrong. I'm gonna give the sensor and connector and better clean see if i can get it running at least. i will post if i get it up and running to conclude this thread. thanks again. chris.
  15. Hello chaps, been doing an inpection on my z while i'm waiting for parts to be delivered and noticed there is no harness connected to the rear windcreen for demisting. This is probably why it doesnt work lol. and i have no radio coz the guy before me didnt wire it up when he put the head unit in. i have 2 questions. there are four electrical connectors on the windcreen nothing is connected to them. 1. where is the harness usually located so i can get my rear window to demist and which connectors are they? 2. if there are 4 connectors does this mean that there is and ariel incorporated into the rear window, if it is i would like toi connect this up as well. if anyone can help i would be greatfull and a description of the connectors would help. ie from looking from the back with the boot open 1st connector meaning closest to me, left or right, heater/ariel, +ve -ve? hope this makes sense.
  16. what vauxhalls? i dont mind buying a new one. anyopne know where the best place to get these parts from are. i was gonna give zedworld a ring in the morning. but if there is someone local to the north east i would prefer them. it feels like parts for these cars are rare i thought something like a temp sensor would be easy to come by as it is a common fault but i couldnt find anywhere other than zedworld.
  17. thanks for the advice, ive checked the ecu and its comming up with code 13 which is indeed the engine coolant temp sensor. the connector lookes a bit naff can you replace these, i will change the sensor, and the connector if i can get hold of one and yous were right they were covered in green crap. for a mechanic i might try that guy near stanley who ken recommended. can smithy supply these parts connector too.
  18. Tried to clean up connector but still didnt want to fire up. i'm gonna try and look at the ecu in the morning, see what comes up.
  19. ive taken a week off work from today so i'll get it all sorted tomorrow. hopefully it will fire up. thanks everyone.

thanks for the warm welcome everyone. i'll put some pics up of the car when i sort the engine out but its completely standard. cept big jap exhaust and spoiler removed. gonna make sure engine is fine then go on to shocks, possibly brakes, then bodykit spray job then custom interior, not bling, style. thats the plan anyway. cheers peeps.
  22. Cool thanks smithy, for the quick how do you know this stuff or is it just experience? cheers again. chris.
  23. thanks for the welcome looking forward to meeting you all once car works that is lol. Can anyone tell me how or why the engine gets flooded if the ecu temp sender isnt working. i cant understand why this would happen?
  24. Thanks guys Nice to meet you all. i will clean the connectors up tonight, i hope this is the problem. fingures crossed.
