Thanks for the diagram – I had already found and downloaded that. In the user's manual for the new Blaupunkt there are two pages of info: Not quite sure what you mean by a "wire loom section to go into this socket" – but there were no plugs, or sections of wire enclosed with the unit :( So this is an ISO connector? Row of five double pins? This plugs into the old unit at the top right, so you are telling me that Blaupunkt used to have ISO connectors, but now don't. I notice that the unused middle socket is the same on both units – could this be what the salesman was talking about? That would appear to be the speaker outputs – on the new unit, at least. But aren't the other cables on the far left in this pic not also an earth connection – why a separate one for this brown cable? Or are those those on the left the power supply??? (You must realise that I don't know my arse from my elbow wrt car electrics :p ) Thing is, the new unit also has a similar big pole to attach those ring connectors to – and that has a big E next to it, so I assumed that it was an earth on both units??? Old unit: New unit Do you think the lower right socket has the same purpose on both units, so that I can just swap this over? It would appear to include the auto electric aerial activation signal (at A5 on the wiring diagram). Trouble is, the old unit's user's manual, most helpfully :rolleyes: , does not include any wiring diagram or such info. Any guesses which wires go where and to which sockets they should go on the new one? Close up of old unit: A few more questions: The wires that are in these connectors – are they just a push fit and held by an internal spring? Can I just pull them out if I want to fit them into a different socket? Surely there should be an adaptor if that is an ISO socket, so that I can go from ISO to whatever that new at the top on the Blaupunkt is? I can see that this is going to end up costing lots of time, effort and, most probably, money!

Thanks, but I'm just wondering exactly what connector I need though. The one on the car fits onto the top socket on the old Blaupunkt, so what type of connector is that – I would need to know to get an ""X" to ISO" adaptor? Also, isn't that separate brown lead for the automatic electric aerial? The new unit doesn't have the same connector, so that will have to be wired into the socket, so it's certainly no simple "bang an adaptor on and you're sorted" type of problem... I knew it wouldn't be as simple as it should be :(

I had a search, but couldn't find an answer. Maybe it's so simple that nobody else needs to ask... My Z has an old Blaupunkt Bremen radio-casstte head unit with a 10CD changer in the boot. The cables to the changer burnt out after a hot track session and I decided that was the cue to bin the changer and get a new head unit. To keep it simple (I hoped :rolleyes: ) I stuck with Blaupunkt. I was worried that the connectors might be different, but the cocky kid in the electronics superstore assured me they were the same – just unplug the old, plug in the new. So, finally, I found time to do this. Pull out the old and see straight away that they are NOT the same. Why am I not surprised? Furthermore, the old unit has a brown cable going to a separate push-on connecter and I can't see where this should go in the new unit. Ah, I see – so it has to go in the door. Obvious when you think about it, I suppose. Can imagine it is fiddly. No-one on here actually done that to their Z? Would like to any advice they might have :)

Did a search, but couldn't find an answer to this: My 1993 Swiss 2+2 TT manual has key operated central locking. Is there a simple aftermarket kit available to convert to remote locking? I suppose it only has to send a signal to a receiver wired into the existing hardware, so it shouldn't be such a big job (I don't need an alarm system combined with the central locking, so don't need door sensors, etc. wiring in). Don't suppose that it being lhd makes any difference... Anyone know of one that is suitable and who might supply them?
