Import Z friendly insurance
Thanks for the replies guys..... I just called Liverpool Victoria and they quoted me £850 fully comp. That's 400 quid cheaper than the TPFT cover i have on my scoob. LV is the first and only company i've called so far. Now to see if i can get a better quote from the rest :D I never thought i'd be saving money by buying a Z. :D

Import Z friendly insurance
Any recommendations for insurance for an Import Z TT?? Tried tesco but they want a tracker fitted. Tried Adrian Flux but they want £1600  I'm 29 with 2 years NCB, no crashes or claims. Car is a 90 import Twin turbo manual with a cat 1 alarm/immob.

I'm singing in the rain......fishtailing in the rain....
erm... you guys are starting to worry me here. I'm swapping my scoob for a Z in the middle of winter?? Not the smartest thing i've ever done but still looking forward to it. Just one question. How does the Z compare to the S13 200sx in the wet? worse/better?? I had an S13 and it wasn't all that bad...just had to be carefull at times.

car inspection before purchase
Anyone know any good Nissan mechanics in the Liverpool area? I'm looking to have a Z inspected before parting with my cash. I checked the RAC site and they want 310 quid

Warranty over 10 years old
Ajay, I just had the same stuff replaced on my scoob. The turbo was covered under the warranty without any questions asked but they wouldn't replace the clutch as it was just slip and not 'mechanical breakdown' as previously mentioned. Car is 8 years old though so dunno what a 10yr+ warranty will cover.

Warranty over 10 years old
I don't know who it's with but the car i'm looking at from an import dealer is also a 90 and it comes with a 3rd party warranty. They are availabe somewhere.

Standard boost level on a import TT
I'm test driving a 90 TT next week and was wondering what boost it should be running (just something else for me to check)? Also, what should the temp gauge read when the car is warmed up? What about idle? what rpm should it sit at when warmed up (bearing in mind that it'll probably be a cold day)? Will the check engine light flash error codes when the car is started or does the ECU need to be put into 'diag mode' or something? Are there any other things i can check by looking at the gauges while driving the car?

Original 300ZX rear Wheels (245's)
Sorry to hijack the thread but i was wondering if the 245s from a UK car will fit directly onto an Import? I guess there's no need for spacers or anything?

2nd Car
I tried using a second car, a 1.1 pug 106. Was a waste of time though cuz i couldn't stop myself taking the 200sx everywhere instead. Only time the pug came in handy was when i was working on the nissan. Must admit though, i'm gonna get another 'second' car when i get the Z.

What fuel for an import 90 TT
Is octane levels in fuel an issue in a Z TT? What fuel would you guys recommend for an import twin turbo? Is octane booster a good idea or can the timing sort itself out enough to compensate for the lower octane?

Anyone looking for a 300?
Grandadg90, You might wanna pop in and see Simon at Quintons Cars. It's on Valley road just along from Tescos in Bradford. I asked him to look out for a Manual Z for myself but i got one in Liverpool at the weekend. At the moment he only has a red N/A auto but he said he should be able to source a manual TT without too much bother. http://www.quintons-cars.co.uk/_quintons.htm

Improved idle and performance
There's a thread on Scoobynet about replacing and adding a few earths on the block and the chassis on some of the older Imprezas. Apparently there have been some very good results found. Idle has been found to be smoother, starting is easier, cars run smoother (especially when cold). I believe the MLR forum has also had a few good results from this. You might want to replace them too while you 've got your head stuck in the engine bay.

I finally bought a Z
Just put a deposit down on a Z. :D A silver 1990 Manual TT 2+2 targa with 55k miles on the clock. Bodywork was mint and the dealer has agreed to take my scoob as a trade in and will do a full service + cambelt change before i pick it up. I am very happy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

What type of internet connection do you have
1Mb blueyonder cable at home and an infuriating 28k dial up at work. Doesn't say much for my employer, i work for one of the biggest IT providers on the planet

Z paintwork/rust
How is the paintwork on a Z? I'm gonna be loking at a few with the intention of buying one, probably a 50-60k miles import. Should the paintwork be spotless (give or take a stone chip or two), or should i be expecting to see some cracked paint or a few blemishes? Come to think on it... where are the most common rust spots. I've heard about the rear sills but are there any others that are "to be expected"? I guess the floors in the Z's are pretty solid?

red 300 on the bill!
I caught it too... I've never seen such a shiny car :D Couldnt have been on at a better time either. I was trying to tell the brother in law what car i was after next. The car came on the TV while i was in mid sentence.

will i be dissapointed?
Joe, cheers for the advice. I'll make a point of going over the car with a fine tooth comb. Just hoping they don't do the same with the scoob i'm trading in ;)
-
will i be dissapointed?
Hi Joe, Is the car you're going to look at in UK Importers Club in Liverpool by any chance? If so... gimme a shout if you decide to buy cuz i was gonna pop over and have a look at it myself. I don't wanna end up wasting a trip :p

UK Importers Club
I've spotted a car that looks to be just what i'm looking for at the UK Importers club in liverpool. Anyone bought a car from them? They worth dealing with? Just on the off chance... do any of you guys live near liverpool? I was just wondering if any of you have seen the car of know anything about it. It's a G plate silver Manual TT and it's supposed to be in mint condition.

semi-auto gearbox??
I'm sure i saw one for sale on here last week that had one (or something similar) fitted. Wouldn't mind talking to someone who has one just to see how good they are. Main reason i'd want one is to hold the car in a gear rather than shift up/down when i don't want it to.
-
semi-auto gearbox??
Wouid I be right in thinking that the auto gearboxes can be converted to semi auto? If it can be done, what sort of cost? Only reason i ask is that i'm looking for a good Z right now and as you know most are autos. I'd prefer a manual but if an auto can be converted to semi-auto then i could happily live with it.

DIY on Z's
Well at least they get noticed. Thats a step up from most other nissans.
