  1. Thanks guys, I've found the Dazzle website - things are becoming a little less hazy now. 300z, YGM.
  2. Can anybody help me? I've got a video cassette that I want to get onto the PC in digital format - how do I go about this?? I think it means converting it to AVI format, but how do I go about connecting it to my PC, and converting the files? I just cannot think how you begin to go about this - I don't think 20th century video cassette will fit into the CD ROM drive ;) Thanks Ed
  3. Hi Jay I would say the most common (major) problems on cars of this age are turbos and gearboxes...plus the components you would expect with other cars (clutches etc) If you do a search on buying advice you'll get plenty of threads come up, some with links to Twinturbo.net (I think) which has some good buying guides which I used. I'm actually selling my 300zx - it's a... UK Twin Turbo Manual 1992 (K plate) Super Black 98k miles Completely stock Just had major service Fully loaded Brand new rear Toyo Proxes 3 months MOT, 6 months tax I am looking for around £5,750. The car runs perfectly and has been very reliable whilst I've had it. It's a very reluctant sale but a company car is on its way and I can't afford to run 2 cars. For a full spec look in For Sale and Wanted for '300zx for sale'. (Ignore the flaky spoiler bit - I am getting a new aftermarket fibreglass spoiler fitted that doesn't flake like the OEM spoiler) The car's got a FSH and has had regular oil changes Also, I noticed you live in Southend, well I'm in Billericay which is just down the road. You're more than welcome to come and have a look round the car just to familiarise yourself, and I will take you out for a drive. If the the car's not right then fair enough, at least you'll have a benchmark (although this is the best car i found when i was looking). If you want photos and more info email me edhessel@hotmail.com or call me 07966 342991 Speak to you soon hopefully Ed
  4. Hi Dan Its the frequency of the noise that increases with the revs, not an increase in loudness. at, approx 3/4000 rpm the noise of the engine drowns it out. it doesnt sound like valve flutter its a lot more defined rattle. Ed
  5. i cant count the rattles - so it could be something to do with the belt being damaged and hitting something once a revolution...? sounds more likely its the spun bearings though im not gonna try and inspect it though, i'll book it in tomorrow it's due for a service anyway. hopefully its not too costly. i might have to sell the car it if its gonna be loads- i still havent recovered from last time something went wrong (problems with it when it went in for a minor service cost 1100 squid). :( i will be gutted if i have to sell up. oh well. such is life. its only a car isnt it? cheers for your help, fingers crossed.
  6. Hi guys I've got a funny rattle coming from the engine... I had teh cambelt changed a couple of months ago and about a week after it had been done it started to develop this intermittent rattle. The rattle's got progressively worse and is now there all the time. It doesn't sounds metallic like tappets - it sounds to me more like a plastic rubbing on plastic noise, but a definite rattle. And it rises with the RPM. I'm thinking maybe the monkeys at the Nissan dealer have put a belt back on or something and its rubbing on something else..? I though it might be the fan but the noise is defo coming from the vicinity of the engine block ... Any advice much appreciated. ED
  7. forgot to say ive tried back to black on the seals but its rubbish
  8. anyone know the best stuff for making the seals around the windows look black again? when the cars been polished the seals look grey against the black paintwork! im thinking aoutoglym vinyl/rubber stuff but dont want to get this if its just one of those silicon sprays... also, my rear nearside fog light hasnmt been working (UK spec) so i had a look today to change the bulb and its not even wired up!! the other one works fine but with this one when you undo the 2 screws the whole assembly just pulls out ! and there are no wires visible the otrher side. why would this be? anyone else had similar problems? also my horn sounds ridiculous (like a goose) anyone else had this problem? is it standard? cheers ed
  9. aha. thought it might be the shocks. i better look into getting some more then... cheers guys
  10. ive tried searching through previous threads but cant find anything... My car seems to do this 'wiggle' at theback end sometimes; eg; when crossing lanes on the motorway when i hit the catseyes, it feels wobbly. its hard to describe but im sure someone must know what i mean. the cars done 95k, i dont think its had the shocks changed - could this be it? or bushes? also, why does my horn sound ridiculous? a bit like a goose. its so embarassing everyone laughs and points at me. and thats before i sound the horn. ;) cheers, ed
  11. Glenn Try Warranty Wise (on the net). I dunno the address but just type this into google and they should come up. They have a CLASSIC policy which covers cars older than 10 years. Not sure if there is a maximum mileage though?? I got a quote on a 300ZXTT and it was under 300 quid for 12 months for a classic policy. Bear in mind though that it won't be as comprehensive as a 'normal' policy. HTH Ed

I also get great MPG on the motorway - if I cruise at about 80. i did 250 miles the other day on just over half a tank!! (about 5/8 of a tank to be precise);) although its a different story around town :p
  13. Bought a late 92 K-plate so that i could get a warranty. The warranty was 350 quid for 12 months from warrantydirect.com Your RAC quote sounds like a bargain for 3 years. since I've had the car the clutch slave cylinder has been replaced and also the water pump. total cost for this lot was 450 quid the warranty paid out 310 cos they only pay 60% of the parts cos its done 90k plus miles. so ive got the cost of the warranty back in 3 months. i would defo recommend getting one. also they cover the turbos which on a high miler is a big plus in my book. make sure you read the smallprint though and follow the proper procedures when making a claim. they nearly didnt pay out for me cos their systems were down the day the garage phoned them, and they didnt agree to the work!! not my problem their systems were down!! they did pay out in the end though. so...in answer to your question my warranty has been well worth it. but i do know some people on here don't rate them at all!! ;)

cant make the slough meet - prior engagament. would liked to have cruised down in convoy though.:D
  15. gutted - you would think that someone would make a spacer for it or something to fill the gap..?
  16. ive just had a new sony head unit fitted - however the standard fascia surround that came with the stereo ( the bit of plastic that makes the stereo look flush) has not been fitted by the audio guys. hence the stereo has a big gap all the way around it and looks crap. is this cos the surround wont fit? are the nissan din slots reknowned for being an awkward shape? or were the garage being lazy. if it is that they are an awkward shape are there adaptors available?? PS just has new rear tyres fitted - replaced the balding Kumho Ecstas with Brdgestone SO3s. tested them; before i was losing the back end in 3rd, in the damp, at this one roundabout. with new tyres, i nailed it in 2nd, in driving rain, at the same spot. and the tyres stuck like glue. :D dont bother with cheap tyres not worth it

Hi Chris I live in Essex as well - Billericay (for my sins). I've seen 3 or 4 Zeds around here as well. Never any in Southend though. Then again I've only been a couple of times so that's probably why :D I use Toomey Nissan (main dealer) for my servicing - they're based in Laindon (nr Basildon). I use them for convenience cos they're next to work. They've been OK so far - apart from extortianate labour costs (62 quid an hour) but I've got a waranty so I ain't bothered about that ;) Good luck with the hunting if you wanna hook up next year when youre up and running gimme a shout. Good luck with the Z hunting. Ed
  20. i downloaded them from imesh - file sharing resource - so i cant post a link to them. if anyone wants to see them register at imesh.com, just type in 300zx in the search and loads of links come up. Ed
  21. "So I'm havin this dream...I'm in a turbo Zee..." Have you this advert? I must have been missing something..? Stuart - I couldn't get yours to work for some reason?
  22. Hi guys I've found some *AWESOME* mpegs of 300zx's on the net, am I ok to post them on this site? One of them is 7.5 MB (but is an original TV ad from the 90's)! I'd love to post them on here cos if youve got a 300 you will *love* them - if you'd rather I didnt do you have an alternative address where I could post them? Ed
  23. has anyone ever changed their gearknob? (manual) is it simply a matter of unscrewing the old one and screwing the new one on? or is there more to it!? cheers ed
  24. this might help to some of you - I was taking to a valeter at the weekend and he noticed the amount of stonechips on the front of my car... I've been polishing it with Autoglym super resin and had notcied that the chips were much more noticeable after a polish He seemed to think that if I used a polish that was the colour of the car (black) then the chips wouldn't show up as much cos the reason they show up more is cos the polish gets stuck in the 'holes'. i havent tried it yet but he seemed pretty sure that it would help the situation...??? HTH Ed
  25. Exactly the same happened to me yesterday; - I noticed there was no heat coming out of the vents at all - looked at the temp gauge and it was on max - as i pulled into my driveway i heard a 'gurgling' noise i switched off the engine, looked under the bonnet and there ws a small amount of steam coming out from under the engine block. RAC came out, he squeezed a hose and said the car had not water in it at all (cos its been raining i hadnt noticed it leaking out) anyway got it towed to Nissan and they said the water pump has gone - the day before I'd had the system drained and new antifreeze put in. apparently this can make all the crap go into the pump (or something like that) so from my (albeit limited) experience i assume its the water pump Ed
