Converting Video files to AVI
Can anybody help me? I've got a video cassette that I want to get onto the PC in digital format - how do I go about this?? I think it means converting it to AVI format, but how do I go about connecting it to my PC, and converting the files? I just cannot think how you begin to go about this - I don't think 20th century video cassette will fit into the CD ROM drive ;) Thanks Ed

I Want To But One - A Zx That Is
Hi Jay I would say the most common (major) problems on cars of this age are turbos and gearboxes...plus the components you would expect with other cars (clutches etc) If you do a search on buying advice you'll get plenty of threads come up, some with links to Twinturbo.net (I think) which has some good buying guides which I used. I'm actually selling my 300zx - it's a... UK Twin Turbo Manual 1992 (K plate) Super Black 98k miles Completely stock Just had major service Fully loaded Brand new rear Toyo Proxes 3 months MOT, 6 months tax I am looking for around £5,750. The car runs perfectly and has been very reliable whilst I've had it. It's a very reluctant sale but a company car is on its way and I can't afford to run 2 cars. For a full spec look in For Sale and Wanted for '300zx for sale'. (Ignore the flaky spoiler bit - I am getting a new aftermarket fibreglass spoiler fitted that doesn't flake like the OEM spoiler) The car's got a FSH and has had regular oil changes Also, I noticed you live in Southend, well I'm in Billericay which is just down the road. You're more than welcome to come and have a look round the car just to familiarise yourself, and I will take you out for a drive. If the the car's not right then fair enough, at least you'll have a benchmark (although this is the best car i found when i was looking). If you want photos and more info email me edhessel@hotmail.com or call me 07966 342991 Speak to you soon hopefully Ed

rattling
Hi Dan Its the frequency of the noise that increases with the revs, not an increase in loudness. at, approx 3/4000 rpm the noise of the engine drowns it out. it doesnt sound like valve flutter its a lot more defined rattle. Ed

rattling
i cant count the rattles - so it could be something to do with the belt being damaged and hitting something once a revolution...? sounds more likely its the spun bearings though im not gonna try and inspect it though, i'll book it in tomorrow it's due for a service anyway. hopefully its not too costly. i might have to sell the car it if its gonna be loads- i still havent recovered from last time something went wrong (problems with it when it went in for a minor service cost 1100 squid). :( i will be gutted if i have to sell up. oh well. such is life. its only a car isnt it? cheers for your help, fingers crossed.

rattling
Hi guys I've got a funny rattle coming from the engine... I had teh cambelt changed a couple of months ago and about a week after it had been done it started to develop this intermittent rattle. The rattle's got progressively worse and is now there all the time. It doesn't sounds metallic like tappets - it sounds to me more like a plastic rubbing on plastic noise, but a definite rattle. And it rises with the RPM. I'm thinking maybe the monkeys at the Nissan dealer have put a belt back on or something and its rubbing on something else..? I though it might be the fan but the noise is defo coming from the vicinity of the engine block ... Any advice much appreciated. ED

seals
anyone know the best stuff for making the seals around the windows look black again? when the cars been polished the seals look grey against the black paintwork! im thinking aoutoglym vinyl/rubber stuff but dont want to get this if its just one of those silicon sprays... also, my rear nearside fog light hasnmt been working (UK spec) so i had a look today to change the bulb and its not even wired up!! the other one works fine but with this one when you undo the 2 screws the whole assembly just pulls out ! and there are no wires visible the otrher side. why would this be? anyone else had similar problems? also my horn sounds ridiculous (like a goose) anyone else had this problem? is it standard? cheers ed

wiggle
aha. thought it might be the shocks. i better look into getting some more then... cheers guys

wiggle
ive tried searching through previous threads but cant find anything... My car seems to do this 'wiggle' at theback end sometimes; eg; when crossing lanes on the motorway when i hit the catseyes, it feels wobbly. its hard to describe but im sure someone must know what i mean. the cars done 95k, i dont think its had the shocks changed - could this be it? or bushes? also, why does my horn sound ridiculous? a bit like a goose. its so embarassing everyone laughs and points at me. and thats before i sound the horn. ;) cheers, ed

Warranty over 10 years old
Glenn Try Warranty Wise (on the net). I dunno the address but just type this into google and they should come up. They have a CLASSIC policy which covers cars older than 10 years. Not sure if there is a maximum mileage though?? I got a quote on a 300ZXTT and it was under 300 quid for 12 months for a classic policy. Bear in mind though that it won't be as comprehensive as a 'normal' policy. HTH Ed

Mpg
I also get great MPG on the motorway - if I cruise at about 80. i did 250 miles the other day on just over half a tank!! (about 5/8 of a tank to be precise);) although its a different story around town :p

300ZX warranty's
Bought a late 92 K-plate so that i could get a warranty. The warranty was 350 quid for 12 months from warrantydirect.com Your RAC quote sounds like a bargain for 3 years. since I've had the car the clutch slave cylinder has been replaced and also the water pump. total cost for this lot was 450 quid the warranty paid out 310 cos they only pay 60% of the parts cos its done 90k plus miles. so ive got the cost of the warranty back in 3 months. i would defo recommend getting one. also they cover the turbos which on a high miler is a big plus in my book. make sure you read the smallprint though and follow the proper procedures when making a claim. they nearly didnt pay out for me cos their systems were down the day the garage phoned them, and they didnt agree to the work!! not my problem their systems were down!! they did pay out in the end though. so...in answer to your question my warranty has been well worth it. but i do know some people on here don't rate them at all!! ;)
