It's definitely the handbrake, not shiftlock. Good point about the importance of the handbrake connection. Can I find the handbrake wiring under the steering column, if so where is it and what colour is it?

Just bought a turbo timer and gonna install it, doesn't seem too difficult just plug into the harness and earth out on body, however my turbo timer has a wire to connect to the hand brake and it recommends for safety. Has anyone experienced this before and is it necessary?

Cheers for the advice, car going in for a service on Tuesday so will ask them to change the tranny oil. Ran the transmission diagnostics, electrics are all fine. Hopefully they find nothing in the existing oil. Transmission oil levels are a little low, but rather than topping it up going for complete change with recommended fluids. Hopefully I will see a major improvement or my next few weekends will be extremely boring saving up for a new tranny.

cheers all for the replies, gonna run that diagnostic will post if I find anything out, cars going in for a service on Tuesday so hopefully will come back with some positives if not maybe new tranny, sickener if it is the case. How much did you pay for your 2nd hand auto?

I bought a 1990 TT recently and have noticed a delay in the upshift from 1-2 and 2-3 she kicks up the revs and holds before changing, makes pulling away extremely sluggish. Once shes in 3rd no probs, anyone have any idea what might be the cause of this delay???
