  1. So for anyone following this thread in the years to come. The box is out and unfortunately everything looks good. Still oil in the torque converter and nothing looks out of place. I still have not come across anyone who has had the same problem. Complete loss of all motion. Taking the box to a local gear place tomorrow for his opinion. A rebuild is out the question as it's over a grand. I just want his opinion on the torque converter. It's still my best guess as to whats wrong. Looking around now for a n/a auto box or maybe a manual convert if anyone knows anyone who has any. Just about to check the forum.
  2. Ahhh matt is back. Thanks for sorting the accounts. Reminds me of my past. Went from owning bars and clubs to indoor go karting lol.
  3. Hahaha just on a break from pulling the top bolts from the housing. Think I should have taken the plenum off On both engine and box once the plenum is out the way life gets much easier. Top bolts with the plenum on is a bit of a struggle but managed it. Just the bottom few then pull it out. Sounds easy.
  4. Thanks gary. As for what I do when the box is out is unknown yet. I will have a look around for a convert I think. Yea done the torque converter routine before with engine change. Thanks Beginning to think I should have lifted it all in one go rather than dropping the box lol
  5. Z32bolt. Thanks. I should have mentioned that although the fluid level was ok it was starting to lose its colour. Drained it now and easiest way to explain the colour is I have seen a lot worse with no issues lol. It's still the original box but I did change the fluid a few years ago. Sounds bad but I have not used it for several years. It's half way out. Wow what a job. Exhaust is a stainless one and had to take it off in one price. Cars only on ramps on the floor lol. What are the 2 sensors near the cats. I assumed O2 sensors. Had to strip out the seats to trace the wires under the centre console. Prop is off and just about to take cooler pipes off. Undo torque converter then bell housing then off she should come. Brings back memory's lol. I thought changing the engine was bad lol.
  6. Hi gary. I have just been looking on how to send a pm. I don't know if it's because I'm on my phone but can't find it lol. My old user is djmattamondo. Joined about 2007 I think. Had a paid sub for a year or two. I had to set a new account as I could not post with the old one. Sorry. If you could help me out I would appreciate it. I will pay for a sub again as it was always a good help Thanks
  7. Hi Guys, I have just had to open a new account while I contact a mod to get my dormant one reactivated. I have had a 91 Z for 9 years and its been under cover for a year or two, Finally give it a spray a new engine and a mot about 6 months ago and shes back on the road., sort of. On sat driving at around 40 the engine revved high and lost all drive in every gear, No reverse either. First thought linkage but no thats fine. Will go into park and lock up but nothing in any other gear. I have a good read through the fsm and dont think its anything electrical, Read the gearbox ecu and all clear on the codes so thats working. I dropped the oil pipe to the cooler and checked for box pressure and there is loads so oil pump is working. In all the threads I cannot find a complete failure like this, I am now assuming mechanical not electrical so It s on its way out the car. I am thinking either input shaft failure or torque converter but would love another opinion or have i missed something. 91 N/A auto import. Thanks, Off to chase a mod to sort my old account out. Matt
  8. yes, you were correct my idea was to keep it n/a as i think it will be too much to make it turbo especially as its auto, i will get it back on the road and then i think i will treat myself to a turbo when its sold lol. i guess i will just keep loo0king for a n/a engine until i get fed up and just take it in for regrind. cheers.
  9. hi, im sure this question has been asked and answered a million times but i cant find it anywhere lol. my n/a is in the garage stripped down to the block due to no. 5 big end knackered, Im wondering if to send it in for regrind and sizing or to buy another engine and drop it straight in, by the time all new parts and gaskets have been bought i dont think the price difference will be that much. My question is can i buy a twin turbo engine and drop it in the n/a changing the manifolds as nessercery or is there too much of a difference between the two. there are a lot more twins around than n/a. cant seem to find one at a decent price lol. many thankx for any help, matt
