  1. I had this same problem and it was kph to mph converter badly wired in behind the clocks. I just rewired it in properly and it's been fine for ages.
  2. My N/A import uses loads of fuel when the ambient temperature drops below about 12'C. I lose about 40 miles per tank full, and the idle stays high for about 4 mins on cold start ( up to 2k!!). Does any one know the resistance readings of the ecu temp sender, or is this normal? I've had over 20 cars in my time and never noticed a different mpg between winter and summer this extreme.
  3. does anyone know if and how much nos a standard N/A zed can take?
  4. i've seen a JWT ecu for sale for an N/A with 370cc injectors, which is mapped for an air filter and exhaust mod. These mods are pretty basic so i'm hoping that a standard N/A is using 370cc injectors
  5. Does anyone know what cc the injectors are on a 92 jap spec N/A. Just trying to pick out an ECU upgrade.
  6. I had this same problem, it was bad connections at the kph to mph converter that the previous owner had fitted behind the clocks. i just refitted it making sure the connections were good then bob was my uncle and fanny was my granny.
  7. Sorted it! i whipped out the speedo to check the kph to mph converter connections and found loads of bad connections. The schmuck who fitted it had used screw down terminal blocks to connect the wires and had screwed down on to the insulation instead of the wire. I wish these back yard mechanics would give it a rest and leave it to us pro's.
  8. cheers guys, i'll have a look at the plugs and give the air mass meter a squirt of brake cleaner
  9. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem with there zeds. My N/A import intermittantly won't rev past 6000rpm almost feels as if the rev limiter has kicked in too early. It feels like a fueling problem but i've read that the ignition modules turn south too.
  10. No worries mate, sounds like a corroded loom fault 'cos it's intermitant. Hope to replace the wires on saturday so i'll let you know.
  11. Right, got the problem with my speedo and PAS cutting out intermitantly and have sussed it to be a speed sender or wiring problem through the forums. I got a quote for the speed sensor, £150 and three weeks delivery so i think i'll replace the wiring first. I have the wiring diagram on cd but can't work it out, (too many years working on German cars i reckon). Does anyone know the wire colours or terminal no's on the back off the speedo?
  12. I'm only getting about 21 mpg for my N/A, i was told that the TT's do this as well, wondering if i should have bought a turbo.
  13. does it affect the power steering or A/C efficiency?
  14. just done a cambelt on the car and didn't think it was that heavy for a bottom pulley, is the underdrive drive that much lighter to make a difference?
  15. I keep hearing about these underdrive pulleys but don't understand what it is. Is it a smaller, lighter bottom pulley or what? I've been working on cars in the motor trade for 14 odd years, just having trouble with the lingo. I have an N/A manual import, any serious poer gains from this mod?
  16. Alright Pete, yeah the AFM will squirt the reqiured amount of fuel in under normal circumstances, but the stock system has parameters. It will cope with after market air filters and sports exhausts but will not run at 14.7% air/fuel ratio by any means which means a loss in power. I was just wondering if anyone had tried this mod and tested it on a rolling road to see if it produces Lambda 1.
  17. Has anyone tried the resister mod off ebay? i bought a zed with an aftermarket air filter, i think it's a blitz, which is making it run lean and flat. I'm hoping that this cheap mod will bring back the stoicheometric fuel/air ratio.
  18. Cheers guys, i'll give this a go at my next fill up.....
  19. Hi guys, I've just bought a N/A jap import Zed and i'm having trouble getting more than half a tank of fuel in it. I pump fuel in untill the pump cuts out and keep trying untill it won't take any more but the fuel gauge goes just over half. I drove it to work, about 12 miles, whipped the tank sender out and had a peak, there was only half a tank full in there! Does anybody know of tank breather problems? I did notice that the pump nozzle only goes in a little way into the filler neck and was wondering if this has anything to do with it.
  20. If your car is totally standard and you can smell fuel at the exhaust and it's drinking too much petrol then there should be nothing wrong with the mapping of your ECU. It will be a fault with one of the sensors on the engine or corroded/damaged wiring to the sensors. You need to get a diagnostics report on the car to pin point which one of the sensors is playing up. It could as simple as a dirty air filter.
