And it wasn't me!

Is there anything I can do to protect myself as I don't think I have been careless with my CC details?

Yea cancel them and get new ones, maybe even safer with another bank

Do you think that is just a coincedence that my bank has a call centre in india and the cards number was used there?

They are sending another card, but do you recommend cancelling my other cards, with different instituions?

I am usually cautious and try to be vigilant with my card details, I suppose it is all part of life's varied tapistry :)

I had the same happen to me a couple of months ago some arse hole in Lithuania tried to charge a few hundred on the card, then there were several other attempts made the following day in France.

fortunately the bank put a block on the card before any money was taken out. it's just irrritating having to wait a week without access to any cash.

shortly after this I read in the paper that all of the local shell garages had been targetted by fraudsters copying details. a small group was arrested for it so hopefully there'll be no more problems.
