Noticed last night that the belt keeps locking. It retracts fine except each time it locks so eventually to stop getting crushed to death I had to release it, let it wind all the way back in then I could slowly pull it all out again.

If I let it wind in 3 inches then tug it its locked. If I let it wind in 6 inches then pull - it still locks. I got to let about 2 feet go back into the mechanism.

What can I do?

On my last Z it would lock sometimes and wouldn't retract, so a great big dangly thing would hang out when I opened the door (haha), so eventually I took it to bits and removed the faulty ball bearing that rolls about when you corner to lock the belt. Not the safest option but it cured the problem.

i took mine apart, it can be done , there is a car roll over safety feature built in which is a ball bearing sat in a cup , if the ball bearing moves even slightly out of this cup the seat belt behaves as you have described, i took the ball bearing out of mine and its fine, still locks and still retracts
