I have a dell desktop and 2 identical 19" monitors that i want to use for work (CAD drawings) how do i get them to work next to each other as theres only one cable socket on the back of the PC?

I would like vectorworks to have one screen for a drawing and the other for pallets etc.

You need two video cards or a card with two outputs.

Then go in to desktop setting and tick to expand windows over the second monitor.

Then make sure the left/right positions are correct.

That's how I do it.

As mentioned above

You can't run two monitors with only one socket, unless you get a splitter but then you would have the exact same on both screens.

You need to upgrade your graphics card to one that support dual screens.

Then once you have done that in control Pannel and display settings you will be able to activate the other screen, set the display resolution and make one of them primary (for use when an application has only been coded to go full screen on a single monitor setup ).

Does it have a DVI out on the graphics card? (white rectangular connector with loads of holes for pins)

If so at one end is there flat hole that takes a blade?

If not and it's just alot of holes for pins (roughly 60!) then it will take a DELL DVI splitter which will allow you to connect it to 2 monitors no problem at all, otherwise as above!

P.S. the splitter i mentioned will allow you to do both mirrored desktops and extended desktops!

Looks like you have a basic video card, with only one analogue output.

That second socket on the graphics card looks like a DVI (yes, it's a crap quality photo LOL). Get an adapter plug and run your second screen from it.

That's exactly how I run mine.

Didn't look square enough to me, I reckoned it was what they used to call a Game port.

It's a no go i'm afraid. My monitors only have vgi (blue) sockets on :( arse!! and i can't find a graphics card with 2 of those, Dell 24" widescreen time !!! :D

As above. Just use a DVI to VGA converter Plug. A lot of graphics cards come with them in the box as standard.

just use an adapter as stated then go to the desktop properties and check "Extend desktop on to this monitor" dont get carried away or you'll end up like me
