Dash warning lamps

Do any of you guys know where I can get pictures of the dash warning lights and what they mean for a '91 TT Jap import? The one in particular that I need to identify looks a bit like a middle-box section of an exhaust system with some sqiggly lines above it. Also, how do I enable HTML so I can add pictures?

I am almost convined that that one means your cats are getting hot.

To add pics first use editride to upload your pic to your rides space and then put the following link in your posts where you want to have the pic.

yourpicname.jpg should be replaced with whatever your picture filename is. Also there is a ] missing from the end of the above - your link needs it but if I put it in above, it would be a non-existent reference.

Would this cause the car to run rough? Only, whilst the warning light was on it sounded like the car wasn't firing on all cylinders, so I floored it and for a few seconds she coughed and farted a bit before finally flying off, and, at the same time the warning light disappeared. Any ideas?

dunno mate.

I am no engineer/expert but I think I saw some posts here which said that if you got extra fuel into the cats then that's one of the reasons they would overheat. (Seems logical to me).

So perhaps you're running rough because you're over-fuelling - and the cat temp sensor is telling you that.

So - again, not techy so please get proper advice - it seems that the cat overheat isn't the cause, it's a symptom of your rough running.

cheers for that old bean. It's given me a few pointers to ask about on the tech' forum. Thanks again.

if your misfiring that light will come on, unless its a fuelling problem (but mysteriously that light came on ours when it was misfiring with no injection??)

anyway, its because the unburnt fuel is setting light in the cat. but if it runs rough, then eventuallyt gets better it doesnt sound like a misfire, unless maybe its a PTU problem??

The lamp is the cat overheat warning. YES the car could well run rough while this is happening. Basically you are getting unburnt fuel into the cats which is then burning inside them and causing them to overheat. This will be caused by an ignition problem. Possibilities are:-

1) Coil Pack connector dirty

2) Coil Pack buggered

3) PTU connectors dirty

4) CAS connector dirty

5) Dodgy spark plug

6) Break in wiring harness

What you need to do first (while it is showing the problem) is find which cylinder is down. Do this by removing each connector on the coilpack and listening to the engine revs. If you remove the connector and the revs don't drop, then this is the cylinder you have to concentrate on. Check the coilpack connector and also the connectors on the CAS and PTU. If no joy finding a dodgy (green sh1t inside) connection, try swapping the coilpack from another cylinder then do the test again - has the fault moved? If it has then the coilpack is dodgy...
