Optimax???

Am I on my own here?

Shell Optimax has no performance/economy gain at all frown.gif

If I use normal unleaded it seems no different than paying almost 10p a litre more.

well if i work it out i think i get roughly the same milage for £10 with either, but I am finding that optimax is helping it pick up in the 700-3.5k range a little bit nicer and i have a bit more of a roar from the exhaust (only notice in car parks)

its meant to clean out your engine pretty well as well, I am gonig to run it for a month or so then see what normal unleaded does. Im sold on it though, i swear my cats smell less with it smile.gif

Mike, you are probably right about the cats smelling less because it's low sulphur.

I can turn up the boost quite a bit further without detting on Optimax biggrin.gif

I noticed a huge difference on my (at the time) stock Jap import because they are setup for higher octane fuel.

Like ChrisC said my import(standard ECU) seems to run better on Optimax I find.

Better starting,

smoother performance,

good mpg,

and its very cheap near me! biggrin.gif

Mines a UK, Could be an improvement but could also be kidding myself. Just done 3 tankfuls Opti and will check on the mpg.

Hi all, just tuned in after me hols, never realised so much could be posted in a week, alot to read to say the least, anyway back to the subject in question,i think alot of good running or not so good depends on the setup of the engine when it comes to fuel,on my previous z,swb, hks boost and chip upgrade it detted badly on normal unleaded, less on super and never on optimax, but on my present z,still stock, restricted, with powerflow de cat, mongoose back boxs it runs really well on whatever, but i put in optimax most of the time just to be safe, the previous owner allways ran it on normal unleaded with no probs,.

i run my car on all 3 fuels, depending on what my schdule is like for the next few hundred miles....

around town, then normal unleaded is fine, as i get about same economy on all fuels

on the motorway, optimax every time

i only use super if i cant get optimax

much better fuel economy, without any doubt.

if i do steady 80/90 on average, then i can get 330+ on a tank of optimax, compared to about 280 on normal, plus get better performance as well

My ones UK and I notice a difference. Optimax is only about 3p a liter different too, not 10p

Iain,

Although Optimax was fairly new when I had my Z, I didn't notice a difference.

I think perhaps the reason is that Pete tuned my ECU on unleaded. I wanted this so that I could use super as a safety net rather than a necessity. He could have got more bhp by tuning on a fuel which was a bit more exotic but I wanted my engine to last !

Did you have a custom chip for yours or was it based on mine ? If it's based on mine then that might explain it.

Dave

I tried my Jap Z on Stock, JWT and SE ECU's with all the different fuels and found the best was SE with Optimax by a long way.

JWT chip seemed good but after changing to SE I was amazed...

I would not put anything in my Z but Optimax now... except maybe Optimax and a can of octane booster... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I reckon optimax has burnt a hole in my exhaustnever used to blow but after using optimax for a while its started to blow, or could be a coincidece, anyway at least ive got a load of top trumps cards to bung up the hole!!!

P.S anyone selling an exhaust!!???

You can have my 2 back boxes from PPS that have been hacksawed off!

Hi Dave,Pete did my chip twice so not sure what the second one was based on,but as it is a SE chip, maybee that's why there in NO DIFFERENCE?

Craig last week I was doing 310 miles from a full tank of 95ron unleaded,so as my car has much wider tyres than yours, and also weighs much more,IMHO I think yours is very poor on fuel wink.gif

Ah but Iain, Craig doesn't have an SE chip !!!

I have tried Optimax a couple of times and I have noticed no difference. Mine is a UK too.

Mine's a Jap and definetly works better with Optimax ! However I'm not sure if it's any better than Super. If I use standard then my engine sounds like a load of marbles being shaken around in a coke can.
