most people on here know me and my car by now

unfortunatly on the way back from the supercar sunday show i blew the head gasket

now i have the dilema of what to do with it now

as it happens i was actually contenplating selling it this year, due to financial circumstances and kids wanting to go to university etc etc.,but i just couldnt bring myself to actually put it up for sale.

so

option 1

strip it all down, sort the head gasket out and rebuild it (cheapest)

option 2

get a replacement engine and swap all the parts and bling over (easiest)

option 3

send it to a garage,to sort it out (zed specialist) (dearest)

option 4

sell it as it is to someone for a bargain,to which they wiil eventually end up with an award winning show car quite cheaply, after spending a bit of time on repairing the engine (give up altogether)

in my opinion

i really dont know what to do for the best and would appreciate your input

im not really mechanically minded to take on such a big job as that, although i have been offered help to sort it by other members locally

i also dont have a lot of spare time with my job

if i did sort it then i would probably run it for a while and then sell it at a good price anyway

ii would consider letting it go as it is if some one is interested in taking it on to get a top class zed, and as i would need another car ,i may also take a part-ex

so if anyone is interested, then please pm me and let me know before i decide what option to take

cheers

If you intended to keep the car (IMO, I think you should its lovely) then FIX IT! even if it takes a year to get done mate it'll still be yours. SORN it and wait until you are in a better position to put it back on the road. You will get nothing near to its true value so why bother? I have found on more than one occasion and I know a few others have too that after a cooling off period you will be so happy you kept it.

I remember when i first saw your car i fell in love with it m8, I think it's stunning, if i were you id keep it and repair youll only regret it if you sell..

with the price's decent zeds are fetching at the mo, which is far below what they should be, SORN it, and fix it when you can or are in a better position to do so. If you sell it with the problem as a fixer, it will gut you each time you see its new owner on here, when they have fixed it.

Far too nice a zed to get rid off.

You need to get actual prices for the work before you make your mind up.

People are saying SORN it which is OK if you can afford to buy another car to run around in and also have somewhere to keep it off the road.

Obviously you are not likely to get any where near what it is worth in it's current state so geting it repaired and then selling it, if that is what you want to do, is the best option.

Thing is, don't let your heart rule your head, the price of these cars is not likely to go up, especially with fuel prices "green" issues etc so if you need the money then now is probably the best time to get rid of it.

Good luck with your decission.

thanks to all who have replied

its nice to know the car is so liked by so many

cant really make my mind up at the mo , while my heart is in my stomach

will have to sleep on it for a while

Its only gonna cost ya parts to repair. so its not a really expensive job to do in comparison to sendin it to a garage to be done.

Wait a little while and let your head relax after the upset of it breaking then you'll know that keeping it is the only logical choice to make. If it was a standard car then breaking it would b a good choice but its got far too much money in it to jus give in on it.

its ok saying that

you will be the one mending it lo:p

 i just want to say i saw your car at super car sunday for the first time and thought it was a great looking car. so sorry to hear the the head gasket has gone. i think you should just get another engine for it.

Tizer I would say the cheapest way to sort the car would be to find a good engine and have it swapped. As you have said you car is well known in the club and im sure you enjoy driving it when you get the chance. If you do source an engine then myself and Dave would make sure your car was turned around with in a week mate. You could have the heads sorted but by the time you have paid out for the new parts needed to do this you would be paying out more. An engine can be any where between £600 and £1200 depending on the state of build. I really do hope you keep the car as it really is one of a kind.

hi ceejay

but surely if i source another engine rather than rebuild mine, then i could end up with a bag of shit, and be back in the same boat again:headvswal

Mate I think you should finally come back to a northeast meet so I can slap some sense into you:slap:

Especially after all the crap you went through with the gearbox. Get the engine fixed mate.

If you do sell it cheap though give me your interior;):D

if you do go down the route of swapping the engine you could keep yours and work on it while its out, that way you still have your car on the road and you can learn a bit more about them, comletely strip it and rebuild it, just a thought that i would personally go for.

Tizer on monday I will find out how much the parts will cost you to do the head gaskets then you can decide from there which way to go mate

it might need more than just the head doin tho. bottom end may well be gone.

Hi Steve I appreciate your circumstances, and sorry to hear of your engine troubles. An engine can be sourced quite easily in the UK, I really really hope you don't have to sell her, unless you're in really dire straits keep it and worry about it later. I remember when you bought that car, I remember your old red Z, she was stunning too. you don't want to find yourself in Z wilderness if you can help it. I sold mine last week and although it has relieved some financial pressure , no money can pay for time and dedication that has been put into something.

Hope it works out for you buddy:)

Thats not a bad idea. Ive done that in the past with my old car just to keep it running. Stripped and rebuilt the engine and swapped them back over again in afew months.

Then sell the tempory engine to get afew quid back!.
