hot starting - confirmation needed

any ideas? Car pretty much refuses to start until it has cooled down - need to leave the bonnet up for about 1/2 hour out of the sunshine and then it starts ok - points to the ptu which hasn't been changed ? (Always seems to start from cold)

Just wouldn;t mind some reassurnace before I start giving main delaer my money !

Does the car ever cut-out when its warm??? If not then I seriously doubt its the PTU. Sounds more like a fueling problem to me. Could be the fuel pump, fuel pump controller, fuel pressure regulator, fuel damper, purge valve etc etc etc.... It could also be a temperature sensor such as the one on the front of the engine on the top metal coolant pipe (left hand one). Maybe even a vacuum leak... The possibilities are endless really...

 

Any other symptoms???

Why dont you check out what error codes are flashing on the ECU? This might give you a better idea. Check out ttzd.com which tells you exactly how to do it and what each code means. This may tell you if one of the sensors is buggered or not!

No there's no other symptons, perhaps the other fault I mentioned may be related - I dont think so though.

On a long drive the other week the gearbox dropped its fluid and insisted on dropping a gear everytime I decreased the revs - ie overdrive wasn;t working properly - didn;t happen in the other gears - guess thats another one for diagnostic teset - can you test the gearbox too ? also is there any way to do an electronic reset on the whole lot - engine and box ?

 

take off the battery for a couple of hours,
