Best bet mate is to look on the tomtom web site or do a google.

I don't have a tomtom nut a garmin and with that i seem to get free updates for the first year. Then you have to pay I think.

Speed camera updates are on an annual subscription as is traffic information. Maps and map updates you buy as you need.....

Check it out at their website

Thanks:D, just wondered if there was any alternative to TOM-TOM's own W/S, for any updates.

The best place to get the Speed Camera updates is the source :- http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/

Not aware of alternatives for the maps etc but I don't tend to frequent the torrent sites etc. The latest maps I know of will be on the TomTom home site and UK only costs approx £30.

Andy I have checked Tom Tom home site and they want £40 to update the map.IMHO thats a little expensive when you can buy a new Tom Tom for under £110:shock:

It does depend on which map of course, but I'd forgotten that everything in Euros has gone up about 25% recently.

free updates can be sourced for maps & camera when available

 dare I ask how lol

Is that forum just for phones? How can maps on an actual TomTom unit be updated?

It usually covers phones, smart phones and pda's, but tomtom is very popular. I managed to get TomTom working on my mobile thanks to that site.

TomTom maps are universal if you have the application that matches the generation of map. i.e v6 maps work with tomtom navigator 6. Maps for mobile, navigator and the go series are interchangeable.

you don't "update" maps as such, you just get the new version of map which has been updated for that month/year. To do this you either use your usb lead that came with your unit or just take out the sd card and use a card reader to transfer the map folder (that you have downloaded) across.

providing you've got a generation of map that matches your application version, the new map will appear in the "manage maps"-"switch map" section of the preferences screen.

the next thing is that it will probably ask for an activation code. Info for that is again on the GSM Forum. Just ask if you get no joy.

Just downloaded the latest map from tom tom for £39.95 IMHO its a little steep when you can buy a new tom tom 1 for around £100:o
