I Need Everyones Opinion - Please

Guys/Gals,

Heard from garage that have my Z in. Nope it's not ZedWorld, Jeff sends it out to another place who are 'specialists' I don't want to give the name yet.

My Autobox is burnt out at the back end and it's not the front pump seal as originally thought.

The problem is;

The garage that have the Z originally did the autobox flush before I went on holiday, the Z had it's first proper run on way to Billing as you know that's where I broke down.

The garage told me what caused the autobox to burn out, they told me there was a blockage in the cooler pipes stopping the fluid travelling round and the back end of my autobox went dry and burnt out.

My logic tells me that if you have a autobox flush and it is cleaned out there should be no blockages, correct?

Are the garage at fault here for not doing a flush correctly?

Something went wrong somewhere, also it's a bit wierd it had the flush and then it went west on it's first proper run out.

I ask as I am facing a 1200 (maybe more) +VAT rebuild for something that doesn't seem to be my fault! (If I had cained the autobox I would stand it but I have not)

Need some opinions...........

Matty.

The flush may have dislodged some gunk or bits of belt/clutch plate that subsequently got stuck in the cooling pipe. Whilst a flush may change the oil you can't guarantee that it will get everything out and it definitely doesn't repair previous damage. You complained before you took it for a flush that it wasn't working right, so it's likley that much of the damage you see now was caused before the flush.

AndyP,

Was working ok once the speed sensor was changed, I had the flush done as a protective measure for the future.

It's a known fact that flushing an engine with flush can dislodge crud which can then block oilways.

If the flush was done by them, then they should be aware that they just had the car recently, and the fault is with them for not checking the box over fully afterwards.

If I flush anyhthing out I would of done it twice to be sure all the crud is fully removed. Normally followed by another oil change a week or two later.

I would try and push it that its there negligence when they did the flush not to of fully checked the gearbox.

if they are gearbox 'specialists' then they should know as well as anyone all of the above points are valid about flushing and debris.

if they were doing the job properly, they would have ensured no crud/debris was left in the box or cooler.

imho

Does an auto gearbox have any sort of oil filter?? The manual only has a magnetic sump plug, but it seems autos are quite sensitive about quality of oil, so maybe a filter somewhere would improve things??

Just a thought.

P.S. Matty, join the manual bandwagon. The only sensible option. biggrin.gif

IMHO I don't beleive in ANY KIND OF OIL FLUSH!
