did they ever actually stick to it !?

most jap cars of the 90's were advertised as 280 but actually has more.

It was only a gentlemen's agreement and when the competition started selling more powerful cars then it kinda got forgotten about. Same as the 125bhp limit for bikes.

a few years back, most of the japenese car manufacturers got together and decided to limit their cars to no more than 280bhp, this was set up to stop each manufacturer producing insane cars just to get punters to buy them and keep the market at a steady and open rate: ie so people could go out and look at say an imprezza and an evo ad decide which they liked the best regarding looks, handling, price and so on not just go out and buy a car that was the quickest or had the most power, german manufacturers do something similar regarding the top speed of their motors, they are mostly limited to 155 mph

or this is what i was told lol, could be absoulte b8llocks lol

Skyline GTR was always over 300 stock.

TT Supra is 320

Im pretty confident the Manual TT zed is 300 for all regions, despite claiming 300 for U.S and 280 elsewhere.
