Further to the "GTR in the flesh" thread which is slowly turning ito a R8 versus GTR thread.

Which would you prefer?.

Sorry, don't know how to do a poll.

Either way, I have just laid out my deposit on the GTR so you can guess where my votes gone .

Cheers.

One of the benefits of owning an old Nissan with a few mods is that both the GTR and the Audi will be looking at its arse end:)

Off topic :slap:

What?. Performance. No it doesn't matter at all that's why this is the 1.0 litre Micra club

Does it matter :slap:

Don't pick on my Micra:slap::tongue:

performance doesent matter, not to me anyway! its all about what you look for in a car i suppose!

Correct, you need to be able to drive to appreciate performance

Well I like'd the 300zx but not because of its badge! It was the cars styling and performance I liked!

That's my point. Punters don't buy Nissan's for the badge, especially in the UK and mainland Europe. Nissan just doesn't have the badge appeal of it's German rivals. It is slightly better in the US.

They couldn't launch the GTR and hide behind the name. The car had to be out there in front of the rest and at half the price, I reckon they've got it spot on.

Another way to look at it:

Stick a German back on the GTR, double it's retail price and critics would say it's a stunning piece of technology and a bargain at the price.

I'd be interested to see what you can do performance wise to either the R8 or GTR. after all not many people keep the 300zx's stock nowadays.

Not sure about the potential of the R8, BUT...

GT-R-Unmodifiable...? Despite those mighty tuning companies at the recent Tokyo Auto Salon showcasing lots of examples of modified GT-R's, read this...

http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default ... ryId=17579

'Reports have emerged revealing a number of new bits of tech that make sure the big Nissan will be an extremely tough nut to crack for anyone wanting to tinker with it.'

'Aftermarket alloys look like they are out, confirming rumours circulating the Tokyo motor show. A sensor is understood to be mounted on the valve stem and if the car is fitted with new rims an error code appears on the dash.'

'The new GT-R won’t allow custom exhausts either as any modification to the intake system causes the ECU to go haywire.'

'We reported a few weeks back that the car will remove its speed limiter when the car arrives at a track.

Well, not only will the track have to be a Nissan approved track, not any old circuit, but owners are required to head over to a Nissan High Performance Centre for a £500 safety check afterwards.'

If this is not done the car will make sure the warranty is void.'

So even if the ECU is somehow reprogrammed or in fact completely replaced to accomodate any modification to the car, you'd void your warranty. But will this stop people from doing just that...The Big tuning houses I'd say NO, But will the owners-Hmmmn-Only time will tell I guess.

The link did not work:)

not true, mines have exhausts, ecus suspension for the gtr. on the gtr.co.uk site you will see pics of people who have changed the wheels too... but this is a rare case where the standard wheels look best imho

Bloody hell this thread is creating some activity I have never seen Clint Thrush post as much in one day:rofl:

with the R8 stetting themselves on fire we could end up with a "mac toastie" . i like both so cant choose

Like I said, I guess its down to the Owner to make the call, Aftermarket parts are indeed available and there are ALWAYS ways around the ECU Throwing codes...

Interesting thread here goes more into it>

Would you regard warranty as important, or does a few extra Ponies matter more? I think its a great car as is, and I guess if I were a prospective buyer with all the technology on board the new GT-R I'd like to know that should anything go wrong I'm covered.

If it was just "looks" the R8 might my vote, but only just, overall the GTR is a much better car and I think it looks great anyway

I'm trying to catch up to you.....................

Something I won't have to do in the GTR

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I love the New GTR to look at. It looks a bit of a bruiser. It has rear parcel seats which could even accomodate humans for short distances and therefore claim some practicalities. I also love the look of the R8 apart from the gay front side lights.

I'm going to have a GTR next year though and maybe I'll change it at some stage for a RS8

Has to be a GTR, the R8 is an overgrown Audi TT and should only be driven by girls and boys who cut hair and like other boys

So why don't you drive an Audi TT then? one of the last things you were driving about in had a bloody plastic flower on the dash:rofl::D
