Weve had an accident with our telly and the screen is all cracked, the insurance have told us it will be at least 3 to 4 weeks before we get a replacement, and have told us to keep the telly inside and out of the elements. Is this dangerous? Plasma is a gas, can it leak? it seems an awfull long time to wait for a replacement, they say that they have to send out a form for me to sign, then they will send out someone to have a look at it then arrange to have it picked up and taken to their workshop to see if it can be repaired and then if not they will replace it....seams long winded to me

should be ok if all the chambers are still ok, plasmas are normally filled gas chambers. I would not worry too much just keep out of the way of any other possible causes of dmg. Insurance companies unfortunately take ages to work out the cheapest option for them :( but hope you get it sorted pronto :D

how would I know if the chambers are damaged? and what are the consequenses if 1 is damaged? is there a risk if the gas does leak?? thanks for the quick answer

they are pretty similar to the florescent tubing used in everday lives so its more than safe. For the chambers to be damaged you would get part of the screen not working properly as the gas chambers are then controlled by a cpu basically and color is done by the current of electricity :D

Chance are you broke some :(

If the company do replace the screen for you as I am sure they would because plasmas cost so much to repair and have such a short life span you may be worth, when and if they give you a cheque thinking of a HD Tft screen.

Sorry did not get back sooner was out in the garage :P

i would say because of the wii's controllers nasty habit of breaking apart and being launched through the big shiney 50" TV....

Or people letting go is a common one as well, line up for the winning bowl, and boom!

does this stop the insurance company paying out for the screen if you tell em it happened playing on the wii???

Can't see it matters what you did with it if you're covered for accidental damage.

  I hadn't thought about that!!!!

There was a whole spate of this when the Wii came out - Nintendo even recalled the wrist straps and released stronger ones..
