what the hell are in these. i was on the A12 at the weekend and a Focus RS pulls in front on me. we started racing but he was basically leaving me behind. i started to catch up but restriction kicked in and.... bah he got away.

i know my car is heavier and i have limit restriction and auto goign into HIS favour...... but jesus what are those things....... i still love my zed but would a manual of made the difference or would i have to mess about with the car to beat it. i want to leave my zed stock and i can admit my car isnt that fast these days compared to all the lightweight high revving cars out there.

guess ill just stick to driving it slow and not bother letting anyone challenge me ^^..... don't really want to die anyway!

should a stock 300 beat a stock rs? maybe not 0-60 but say.... getting to 100 or so. or is the weight and the auto not going to help me out at all? i would like a manual next but my mrs has her heart set on gettin the 350z in the next few years as she wants it so damn much. i know according to top gear the older is faster but she isnt bothered on speed... she just likes the 350z looks!

although i will be getting manual next wether its the 300 or the 350

Stock TT definatly quicker than a stock Focus RS. I had a play with one about a year back on motorway and I was much quicker, he would'nt give up, and I kept leaving him over and over.

Stock TT is quicker at all speeds, 0-60, mid range and top end

ok then. by the way im not really into modding but what could i do to make the car quicker without causing toooo much stress. i would of liked to keep the normal exhaust as i prefer it however i know people are going to say thats a must for more power....... i just dont like loud exhaust noises

as you can see im not a moding person and i have no clue on what these mods do or how they work :-(. i would like the car to be as standard as pos

intake, chip, boost increase to about 14psi, preferably exhaust too. as long as the motor is in good nick. you can use mig welding tips (nicknamed boost jets) to increase boost for a few pennies or install a propor electronic boost controller for a couple of hundred if you want the job done properly and the control over boost.

First thing to do is make sure the car is running properly. You dont want to play around with increasing power until you know everything is working correctly first.

There are many factors that can affect power - Boost leaks, safety mode, Running too rich from poor o2 sensors or Temp sensors, Incorrect timing, Clogged Fuel dampners/regulators...etc

Fixing many of the above will also have other benefits such as improved fuel economy.

Best bet is to drop the car off at a specialist for a health check.

ok i will do that once the pug is sold..... i will look into these mods. although is there a way to get a good exhaust that makes as little noise a possible. 1. im not a huge fan of loud exhausts and 2. My mrs loves the car as it is and will not drive it with a loud exhaust.

As Legrath says the Z is quicker altogether, but the handling on the RS Focus is superb, the Focus would have you round the twisty's...

thankyou for clearing that up mate ^^ although it makes me think why they didnt do that in the first place?

It's a 2.5L Volvo Turbo engine and some very nice new suspension so I would think a stock Z would be about even in a straight line with the extra weight but on the twisty bits the Focus will handle much better.

or your car is'nt running at 100%.

  • Author

yeah that could be possible........... seems fine and doesnt hesitate. went in for a check over when i had my cambelt changed and he couldnt see anything wrong. apart from pulleys worn and needing replacing

simple bluefin remap, exhaust and a few other mods can see the RS to 300 bhp which would give a near stock 300zx a very good run for its money ;)

Have you checked you aren't stuck in safety boost?

There's a lot of Z's with minor faults causing them to keep the boost down and if you don't know any better the car will seem fine.

From reading your other thread, seems to me like you do wanna go faster, so stop pretending and get booked in for a rebuild:) Then you will Crush anything that challenges you ......
