detonation sensor?

hi guyz, spoke 2 jeff the otha day about the det sensor.... i was gonna change the resistor 2 overide the circuit cos its in safety boost mode. only thing is i cant find it, its not where it should be from what jeff told me.

wondering if any1 knows where else i could maybe find it and if it is a good idea 2 go ahead with??

nice 1 people

Run an ECU DIAG first to see if you get error code 34 which is detonation sensor problem.

Here is the det sensor connector.

If you bypass it then there can be some truly expensive concequences.

just tried 2 do an ecu diag....no luck frown.gif

couldn't find the box! i released the 1 with the blue connector but no threre was no led.

couldn't get the larger box out ( on the right with the metal cover)

any info please

cheers jaz

You dont actually have to take the ecu out to do it, turn the screw as faq and the check engine light on the dash will flash the error code(s) - flash flash flash, pause, flash, flash, flash, flash for error code 34.

Give it a go.

Give the car a good blast before hand though then park up and run diag.

But a simple thing to do is bypass the sensor and see if you get full boost back then plug in back in the detsensor connector and see if s/b returns.

cheers sen, did the ecu diag......code 34 mate!

do u know wat i could do to rectify it?

One of two things,

Either change the Detonation Sensor (ack nasty job plenum off or engine out)

or

Bypass sensor with 1 megohm resistor (no knock sensor then though)

Good luck!

Also check the connectors!

The detination sensor has a connector at the back of the engine bay. It could be disconnected, dirty or even connected to the wrong plug. It's worth checking.

If it was me, I'd also read the manual to see if you can check the sensor from the connector in the engine bay to prove it really is faulty. (Probably is faultly though). Ie. using a voltage or resistance meter etc.

as Jez says, check/clean the connector. My connector was full of crap. Once cleaned, no more code 34.

Vijay

Yeah the error code 34 just means that the correct reading cannot be obtained from the knock sensor, this can be anywhere from the ECU to the sensor and connector between the two - I just assumed that if you planned to bypass the sensor you would have already checked the connector.

guyz the only prob is the actual connector is not near the bulkhead area, at all! been chating to jeff 4 the past few days hes but no luck.... i know the engine was replaced a few years bk so that might have something to do with the connector not being there??

also there was a connector bout 15-20cm on the left, to where it should be and the wires on them had disconnected due to heat-sorted that but no joy frown.gif

that faulty connector had diff colour wires on either end ie black/white goin into the connector and green/black coming out? is that ok?

ill go through it again cos from jez said, there does seem 2 be a cock up somewhere along the line!

appreciate ladz

regards jaz
