have z32 jap import & 200sx (s13) UK car & have never been able to get one policy to cover both cars- all insurers I've contacted say its because there's a mix of UK & import- can't see why it matters!

Has anyone here got a solution to this- if you suggest Trade policy how easy is it to obtain & is there an issue as I'm not a trader!!

Tell em Ed Kay sent you and we both get 30 quid back :nana2:

Quote from thier website:

ALL TYPES OF MOTOR TRADE ACTIVITY WELCOME

Whether you buy/sell vehicles, carry out mechanical repair/servicing/body repairs/MOT testing or are INVOLVED IN ANY TYPE OF MOTOR TRADE ACTIVITY, Road Runner Combined Policy is designed to offer convenient solution at competitive prices with the superior service of Road Runner.

There are various levels of cover to suit small to medium size motor traders operating from premises, a workshop or converted garage at their home address with no survey required.

I have had trade insurance for 15yrs. I've been with Prudential, AXA, Tradex, Zurich and MMA. One drawback is that when you make a claim, the vehicle is valued at "Trade" value not retail. If you paid "retail" for your car they will only pay out a fraction of what you think it's worth! (I have experience of several T/losses)

The insurance companies know that people who are not traders use this to cover several cars/ high risk cars like Z's. They will usually take your money and accept your story and your signed declaration when you take out the policy.

However- when you need to claim they will want real proof that you trade. Remember- they don't really want to pay out and if there is any doubt at all- they won't settle your claim and if there is a 3rd party that you've pranged/ wrecked/ maimed/ killed etc- they will tell the 3rd prty's insurers that your policy is invalid and then you're explaining your story in court.

Most trade insurers are not really keen to cover non-mainstream cars (IE Imports/ modified/ Left hookers etc) If you want to know if your car will be covered properly, then ask them when you get a quote, tell them how much you paid, what mods etc.

Good luck

As for the not worrying about getting quotes its great, the guys i spoke to at roadrunner said to just update them from time to time with what cars i had.

If you have a car in your posession for more than 14 days you are supposed to notify the Motor Insurance Bureau. They list the car so that any agencies (DVLA/ Police etc) can see that it is insured.

I was stopped recently by Traffic police, the number plate reader in their car had picked up my plate as they passed me and flagged up an uninsured vehicle.

When I said I had trade insurance they wanted to see the certificate there and then (I was about 500yds from my home). They were fine when they saw it but they reminded me to get it listed on the Insurance Database- I had the car for 3 days at that point

When i got the insurance policey from Roadrunner it listed cars that would not be covered but unless your David Beckham there's no worries.

I have a list of David beckham type cars that I'm third party only on but I'm insured on anything I own.

When I took out my policy I said that I would be dealing in imports and hi powered cars, they added that on and said no problem. I told them the 300 was modded and they said not to worry. Her words were "as long as its not an impretza"! To which I replied it would kill an impretza lol She said ok I'll make sure that box is ticked. I then asked if they would like a list of the mods to which they said no it doesnt matter. (I think her name was louise who did my quote and I got put through to her again to take it out once I had decided to go ahead)

I cant personally say for them trying to get out of paying out as I have never claimed.

Although as I already said, I have a friend who is with roadrunner who pushed a woman into a roundabout last year. The claim was settled with no problems but his renewal was up by £200 this year as you would expect.

Roadrunner do list 3000gt's, skylines, cosworths, evos's and imprezza's in their 3rd party only, so i was a little worried about the zed.

Ill find you the full list later but no Nissans are listed as third party only on mine.

from memory its all Ferrari’s, lambos, porkas, Bentleys, bmw "M" series, Westfield’s and Deloreans (god knows why) lol.

Don’t think there were any others and I defiantly double checked Nissans.
