Hey folks,

is it possible to 're-instate' (if thats the right term..lol) a partition on a usb flash drive

had a buddy format my computer hard drive and he accidently deleted the partition table (his words not mine) from the usb drive instead of hard drive but didnt format it but he doesnt know how to put it back and there was all files backed up on it ready to put back onto hard drive when formatted

thanks in advance.

its not possible to reinstate it at the click of a button, but it is possible to retrieve most, maybe all what was on there using special software.

would i have to buy the software to do it as the files would be nice to have back but not at an expense

as far as i know, the software is not readily available for purchase. however, a mate of mine works for dell and he has it. i can have a word with him and see what i can do. it may be a case of letting him have it to do himself and put the info on disc for you.

thanks mario for your help but to be honest the files aint that important,i thought it maybe an easy fix but not to worry

thanks again mucca

like i said. i could probably get most, if not all recovered for you. its not as though you are far away anyway. will leave it with you mate. just let me know.

use getbackdata

http://www.runtime.org/gdb.htm

scan it and then if you find anything drop me a pm for a serial

at least someone has something thats cheaper. ive not really kept up to date with all this stuff over the past few years but shows how far this sort of software has come. at one time of day you could not get it for love nor money.

I would try partitionmagic it's not expensive and should be able to put the partition back to its previous state. As long as you haven't overwritten the tracks on you disk drive, you should be able to get your data back.
