if youve read the post "what can go on ya car in ten years you'll have some idea?

check for proof that the work has been done ,dont take his word for it.

sounds a good buy but id take someone from here to veiw it for ya .goodluck ,jay

Oh i forgot to and he says its got FSH from new smile.gif

I paid £4500 last year with 136,000 miles on it. It now has 152,000 miles and has never let me down. Even when it was -10ºC at winter it started up first time within a second of the key turning.

There are 2 ways of looking at it.

1. Its got loads of miles on it.

or

2. Its got new turbos and new cam belt so no major servicing will be needed for a while, 60,000 miles.

The full service history is important. If you go to look at this car, spend 10 mins reading all the history. Make sure its had an oil change at the most every 6000 miles.

From personal experience, I know if you get a good engine and well looked after and you look after it well, they will last for a very long time.

Take a good look at the FSH....does it look genuine? Are the 'older' stamps looking 'older'.....I had an acquaintance that could get a fake Ford Service History.....with a selection of dealer stamps from around the country...for around £250 around ten years ago.

You cannot be TOO careful....presumably he will have a file full of receipts and invoices supporting the expenditure on the car. If that is the case and it all looks kosher I think that is a pretty good price....you can always try and knock him down a bit though...it IS high mileage...and he doesn't mention having had any gearbox problems....yet!!!

Take someone from here with you!!! Where abouts is the car??? roughly wink.gif

Mines is also UK with a similar mileage now. Full service history as well. I needed to fit new rear shocks, new discs all round, rebuild the front calipers, front poly tie bar bushes, regass the aircon, new centre bearing for the prop. otherwise only regular synth oil changes and really enjoyed the drive!!!

Take a close look at just in front of the rear wheel arches at sill level, the anti stone chip paint can hide rust there - especially on UK cars.

Barry,

I'd recommend an inspection. I had one done and rejected the car. Had another one done and it came up with minor things. Despite that, I was able to negotiate the price down by more than the cost of both inspections using the report.

It isn't a replacement for advice from someone here though - it's just that AA or RAC are seen as 'official' and are better for bargaining.

And if he says you can't have an inspection then walk away.

Just my 2p worth.

Dave

I had a car with full history to say 75K on odometer - faked!

Had 135K according to previous owner, got my money back tho, as the car was bought from a trader (a shit of one)

That said *that* car was on orginal turbos and blew well even for a 135k car. BUT it had other probs and book value on it was around £2300

Check the paperwork to see if it has had a new Knock Sensor fitted for one, you dont want a faulty one of those (GRR)

Run your finger along the rear bumper and see if there is a film of oil - shouldnt be I would imagine if it has had new turboids.

There are some well looked after cars on TTnet in the US that have covered 250K on original blowers but that is an exception - be careful.

My first shed I chose not to have an inspection by the AA as they wanted over £300 for it - I lost more on that car even with the refund so look at it that way.

Good luck

Take a aerosol can of Air Filter oil with you and whilst the guy aint looking spray at shit load of it into the filter - the resulting smoke out of the pipes will enable you to get the car for 2K wink.gif

FFS only joking wink.gif

Slough?

Leigh - can you help this guy out?

I'd be happy to go along but I know schitt about technical things.

Barry - I'm not available (work) until after Billing (sob) and, as I said, I am crap technically but if none of the technical gurus locally can come on the day, I'll happily help out and do the teeth suck-y thing "'oo sold you this, then?"

Cheers - Gio

I'm in Staines, which is about 15 mins from Slough, if you need a hand, email me and i'll come along if i'm available.

I wouldn't call myself an expert, but you do tend to pick up a few things after 3 years of ownership

Ian

There is a cheap way of getting a basic inspection and that's to take it for an MOT. Obviously not as comprehensive as the AA/RAC etc, but a tenth of the price.

MOT's only assess the car for roadworthiness - I was warned off a 300ZXTT after an AA inspection which wasn't completed - but the car had passed an MOT. An MOT says nothing about the condition of the engine. An MOT is also variable in quality - depends who does it.

I inquired about an inspection.

Because of the car they needed the car for 24 hours and would cost over £400.

Firstly, you find a person who is selling a car who is willing to let their car leave with you for 24 hours, and when you are on a tight budget over £400 is way too much.

To be truthful. If I got an inspection I would have been told not to buy it. But I have bought it and its not give me any trouble.

Stuart

MOT's a waste of space, it even says on the back that its not in indication of the cars overall condition.

brake pads need to below 1.5mm to fail

suspension components need to be *excessivly* worn

tyres can be devoid of tread on the outer edges & pass

want me to go on??

it really is a very low standard test!!
