My uncle has just retired and is looking for a classic car to restore as a hobby to keep him busy.

He wants RWD - convertable - manual - and nothing new - it has to be 50's, 60's or 70's latest.... (remember he is an old codger). With a budget of upto 5k

All I can think of is a Triumph Stag, Fiat 124 or Sunbeam Alpine/Tiger.

I dont think condition is all important - because he has pleanty of time to kill now.

Can you think of anything else to suggest.

jensen healey

Parts a very cheap, lots of clubs and spares, cars are about 5K for a decent one and 2K for rusty

Mk2 Cortina convertible, very rare and very nice.

Or something American!!

IF you can find one available, how about a Crayford Capri?

Four seats, proper factory approved and dealer sold genuine convertible!

That's just a quick pic I found on the internet, but I have some much better ones myself :D

No good, he wants 4 seats dude!

funnily enough, I suggested these last night, and the only one that caught his eye was the Jenson! I asked him why he needed 4 seats and he mumbled something about showing off for his grandchildren.

all very good choices, but I dont think he is quite sold yet.

Best try somewhere like here for ideas.

Hi,

Not quite 70s but more 80s, you have the XJS Cabriolet 2+2 and the Reliant Scimitar GTC?

Both are available in the price range and the GTC is available as a manual!

Sorry to drag up this old thread, but after months of test driving Stags, he has decided he hates Triumphs!

I suggested an M3 convertable (probably because I want one) but he doesn't think they are classics...

Any more suggestions?

MGB-GT - think they are 4 seat. Lots of support, manageable size, not too expensive and even a V8 option.

Ideally an Aston DB4/5 though !!!!

I think he would have loved one, but the vert is only 2 seater..

vauxhaul cresta convertable , some nice 1960 vauxhall tin , and ford tin thats probably been semi restored , i e no rot or tin worm .

oh ...forgot about the daddy of all convertibles ( spelt right this time ) the moggy minor convertible

easily fit a rover v8 in there and spares are very easy to come by ....
