Need some help with this one!! as some of you may have read my "project" ZX made 502 FWHP / 440 RWHP very recently, however it made this power on relatively low boost of just 1 bar... the car has the mechanics to reach the magical 500 RWHP but is maxing out on the AFM side...

The car has a Super AFC installed, it is the older type black unit with the manual dials... so my question is this... if I install a Doolz type set-up with a dummy AFM on one side will the current set-up wuth SAFC be able to adjust the fuelling to the correct levels without actually messing around with the ECU?

Anyhelp on this much appreciated, Thx Lee

Smithy,

I'm going to make a point here because there's too much crap on the forum when it comes to this. Not a personal dig but lots of people get confused on the subject :(

The Doolz / JWT Twin pop with 1 MAF and one dummy unit effectively double the amount of air you can read

(You also need a dual pop ecu or S-AFC to then double the amount of fuel. This is to compensate for only reading 50% of the air)

Both have pros and cons:

DOOLZ

Pros

Balances air before splitting, guaranteeing the 1 maf unit is reading exactly 50% of the airflow.

Smoother bends in the pipework

Cons

Places the air filters low down into the mouth of the bumper, exposing it to turbulent air and water

JWT Twin Pop

Pros

Keeps the filters under the nose panel

With a SAFC you can use two MAF's and set it to add the signals together so you can keep the single POP program and eliminate the need for the idle hose

Cons

90+degree bends in pipework

When only using 1 MAF, at idle it will not be reading 50% of air due to the IACV drawing in more air on one bank. This will result in an uneven idle. Under load this is not an issue as both banks will drwa approx the same amount of air.

HOWEVER, the idle air hose fix is a work around to correct the idle by plumbing the opposing banks together and making the IACV draw air from both sides at idle, resulting in the single MAF reading 50% again

Onto the pictures :)

Doolz (note air is balanced before hitting MAF)

NOTE: for doolz users there are also extension pipes available to push the air intake under the lights, ideal for use with a FMIC

For the more serious, the v2 doolz allows you to make the balance uneven between the MAF and the dummy side. This effectively allows you to change your AFR! (eg for race gas)

Very nice pics and very informative Jaffa, however fraid we'll have to agree to disagree on my statement that the Doolz is NOT an upgrade to a hard wired in JWT twin cone kit (with idle pipe), which is what this was all about.

Doolz may have smoother pipe work, but is longer and the plumbing tract is long enough as it is. Moving the AFM further down the system is not beneficial.

Having sold a few Doolz in my time and studied it at great length I can see the advantage over pretty much any other induction kit ( which i've said) but for the quick fix Lee was wanting to do JWT stylee and then change to the doolz, would be a total waste of ££ and time. Quick fix is either Q45 or make his own larger MAF

Without no one actually having run the 2 kits on the very same car, we'll never know which is the better, unless Lee does that!

Oh and the Doolz is only about 130 delivered at the mo, so hardly worth the fanny arsing around with owt else IMO :D

Smithy

lol, ok mate, I think I see where you're coming from and agree that Doolz is no better than the JWT setup. :D
