Compaq Presario V6000.

My other second hand Fujitsu gave up, so thought I'd invest in something a bit more reasonable. For £650 I got quite a good spec'ed one. Dual Core centrino, 160gig hard disk, 2gig ram, 2MB cache, vista and a few other bits and bobs. Very very quick it is. Quite amazing what laptops can do these days! LOL My first ever laptop was about 4 inches thick with a rubbish little screen and running windows 95. This one's wide screen too and the graphics are simply superb!

Anyway, this one's got Windows Vista on it, thought I'd have a ball ache trying to get used to it. But I really like it. Not really used to any real capacity, but it seems as easy to use as XP.

Who else is running vista? Anyone note any issues with it trying to get old software to run with it?

ps sort those green curtains out while on the subject of hideous :D

go on then, enlighten me.... Afterall I know nothing about computers, I only have the one degree in them...

Then you should know full well a laptop is a huge compromise on a desktops capabilities to make it portable.

No one with any computer knowledge out to get a really good high capability computer will say, "lets buy a laptop because there is nothing better!"

Degrees are wonderful things but no match for actual experience and knowledge on a subject. :duffer:

Laptops are you ford foucus for running the kids around doing everyday chores in etc etc. We all need them and they have their duty. A balls out desktop is your veyron for ripping tarmac up. A top pc with quad core cpu and quad sli would need a minimum of 1kw power supply . Fancy having that on your lap power needs fuel ??? Third degree burns spring to mind ...in laymans terms

why would you want that though, just no need for it. For everyday use for 99% of people, a laptop is fine.

I am not saying they are not fine. They have their purpose. I would love a laptop my wife has one but I utilise a good desktops raw power. As for ther is no need for it....There is a need for it. it's what pushes technology forward otherwise your laptop would be a speak and spell. Or even a stone with a piece of flint

I am familiar with desktops 'raw power', see my last big box..

Was running a fairly extreme overclock too, my laptop does just as good a job as it did at everything I use it for, which includes gaming.

As for knowing a little about laptops and 'actual experience and knowledge', here is one I stripped earlier...

I do this kind of thing in a professional capacity now..
