I have this clicking sound from heating system, it sounds like a flap is jammed and can't close (or open), there is a clicking about every 6-10 secs also a noise like a spring pinging and another noise like a solenoid is attempting to move something! I think it's pretty obviously a flap that is stuck, but does anyone know what to do to fix the problem. It only happens when you set the temp to below about 19c. When it starts the noises, if you then up the temp to about 24c, it stops and you can lower it to 19 or 20 without it starting again, but when you try to go to 18 or below it starts every time, whatever you have any of the other buttons set to. Doesn't make any difference whether you have air con on or not, it's only recently started doing this

Cheers for any help on this in advance guys

Mine occasionally does this too. it is a solenoid I think. there was a thread about this a while back (search and ye shall find).

mine is a series II and I find I don't get the clicking noise if I direct some of the air flow to the footwell. have you tried this?

Can't do that with mine as series 1, we don't have the luxury of choosing where our air comes out!! lol

This is the nylon gears on the motor that operate the flap. You have three motors on the side of the Heater matrix housing. One moves a flap for hot and cold. Another moves a flap to sellect aircon or heater/fresh and finally 1 operates the dirction of air flow. This is the one most likely to will be clicking and sorry to say once it starts it will fail as the clicking is the nylon gears slipping. The eventually their arn't enough good teath to move the flap. Then it will be stuck at either your feet, the Windsreen (not too bad), Screen and feet if your really lucky or if your unlucky at the face blowers.

The bad news is that the process of removing these motors from a breaker generally results in the gears getting fooked and do you really want to have your dash out to find you are going to have to do it again. The other bad news is that I recently bought all three motors. the total cost was £575 which means each motor costs about £180. They are all different and not interchangerble. So get it right first time.

Thanks for that, how much would it cost me to have someone do it all, including cost of whatever new part I will need? I ain't going to attempt it myself! lol

Had a feeling it might be some sort of nylon teeth wearing out or something!

Haven't got a clue. It maybe that you could take the peddle box off and the steering wheel and all the lower dash to do it, but I personally think seats out dash out and easy to see what your at. It is nothing technical just very time consuming.
