A question for the guy's in the know.

A 8.5x19 front wheel fitted with a 235 tyre, with an offset of +28

BUT.. I also have to fit a hub adapter, which is 1.25 inch thick..

Will the wheels overhang the arches too much, and look like "Super fandango's" ?

Thanks for any advice :)

Yes with your spacer, and 28mm positive offset you will have a positive offset of 60mm, standard is positive 43mm, I think, it been a while that I have needed to calculate offsets. but whatever you will overhang by around 20mm.

Thanks for your reply Allan.. Appreciated.

Would having the arches rolled compensate for this in any way, do you know? Or does having the front arches rolled not work in this way.. I don't have any experience of rolled arches.

.

. Thanks!!

No I have never had arches rolled, so I cant say. Remember you are looking around an inch of overlap.

Yep.. Thanks Allan.. I think they are a 'no go' .. I don't think even having arches rolled will compensate for a 1 inch+ overhang.

I appreciate your advice though, thanks buddy :)

I think the standard is +38 Alan? I might be wrong but thats the figure that springs to mind. +28??? I would try them without the spacers and see how they fit in the arch? then you can bring them out inch by inch. I would have thought the big spacers are for a standard offset and not the +28?

I don't have any choice with the spacers Vini, as they are actually adapters, which happen to be 1.25 inch thick  ..They are to convert the 114.3 hub pcd to 108 wheel pcd which is the wheel fitment.. It's a set of Ferrari fitment alloys I was eyeing up for the wide arch, but looks like a no go, unless having the arches rolled will compensate for the inch+ overhang.. But I've got a feeling rolled arches just allow for a few extra mm.. I might be wrong though.. I don't know anyone who has had it done

Take the adapters to a cylinder head repairer and have them skim some off the width Ian?

I'm not sure they could be skimmed down Vini, as they have the stud extensions built into them

They would have to shave off about 3/4 of an inch aswell :wack:

I can't understand why they come in 1.25 inch thickness.

It's these:

Yeah they could be skimmed - just press the studs out before skimming :)

Rolling the arches just gets rid of the 'inner lip' allowing more room for the wheel

Thanks Andy..

What about front arch flaring?.. Would that improve the overhang, or still only a superficial modification?

In all honesty mate if its for the black one then it could do with a bit of flaring on the front wings to bring the car back into proportion ;)

Offset is there for handling reasons and nothing else - its about placing the centre line of the wheel on the correct part of the hub so that the steering and suspension components can do their job properly.

Following that, it makes sense to first get the offset correct and only then, modify the arches so they fit the wheels...

Not sure if there's any extra width on the 'venom' front wings, anyone else any experience???

Cheers,

Andy

Yes mate.. It's for the black wide arch.. Agreed, the front arches do need flaring out.

So the wheels I have my eye on are a non starter in anycase then @+28 offset?

With regards to the offset, you have to remember that when you fit spacers, the thickness of the spacer is added to the offset. If its JUST for show then its not really a problem but if you actually want to enjoy driving the car its worth getting right. Even Saz noticed a difference when my wheels were fitted to her car as opposed to her wheels and she doesn't even push the car (her wheels have nowhere near enough positive offset). It does make a huge difference to how the car feels and handles so IMO its a major consideration.

I'd still work on flaring those front arches tho ;) Would make a world of difference to the appearance of the car ;)

Not a problem mate :) With the right mods that car could be one of the best on here!
