we have got a firewall at work that blocks certain websites. It blocked the obvious stuff; porn, gambling, downloading, etc but it has started to block other things like youtube, the facebook, myspace, all internet radio, etc. We used to be able to get passed it by using http://www.cooltunnel.com but that also got blocked. I understand cooltunnel is known as an anonimyser so i searched for more on google (thankfully not blocked....yet!) and all ones i found were called 'proxy' something or other and were all blocked presumably because everything with proxy in the webaddress is assumed to be a anonimiser.

Does anyone know of any similar sites like cooltunnel that can get me into youtube etc.

Obviously it is a bit tight of them blocking all these. Cant see the problem if you are looking in your lunch break etc and i think one of the trade unions advised companies that workers should be able to look at the facebook in their lunchtime.

yeah id love to know how to get passed all that blocking crap!!

I have a solution, but its not the sort of thing to advertise on a public forum, i will pm you directly

They may have blocked the DNS but not the IP address of website. Search google for DNS IP tool/converter. enter a dns, convert to IP and use the IP in your address bar rather than say http://www.youtube.com.

I dont work in IT but it works at my work place :)

I think Giant_Slayer had success with my method, I will PM you too.

or, like you said without the dns convertor

click Start, then click Run

type CMD and a black box will open (This is known as a dos shell)

type

PING http://www.youtube.com

and it will reply with 4 sets of numbers (known as an IP addresS)

in this example 208.65.153.238

then just enter them 4 numbers in your web browser

Just for the it illiterate, a very rough/basic note.

When you goto a website i.e. http://www.300zx.co.uk your computer contacts a "DNS".

The "Domain Name Server" effectively resolves (converts) your entry of "www.300zx.co.uk" address into the 4 sets of numbers (ip address).

so with the ping command for http://www.300zx.co.uk this would resolve to 62.149.33.64

Sometimes a DNS can go down, but you can still access website with the IP address.

excellent but how would i go about seeing pics posted on here that do not show up as they are on hosting sites that are blocked?

tried using IP adress still blocked!

Best do some bloody work then

On another note, if they've blocked it and you're found to be purposefully avoiding the firewall then you risk being given your P45...

fook that

i used to be able to access my own website now they have blocked that, but why, there is nothing rude on it not, rude words etc!! do sites just automatically get blocked?

No they'l have seen the site on the firewall log and blocked it more than likely. Don't matter if its rude or not, the fact is ITS NOT WORK RELATED and thats what they're paying you to do - WORK lol

well how come they aint blocked this site then??

i can only do as much work as they give me lol
