Mph is the only way to measure speed, kph is b0ll0x!! trying to work out how far you are away in europe is a pain - everything seems so far away until you realise its in km, always think the speed limits are good until i realize im about 50mph over the limit!! :rofl:

even tho most thing at work are now measured in mm, i still feel better when measuring clearances in thou!! i know what a 8 thou valve clearance should be, point summit of a mm?! huh??

Ha, I knew you wanted to drag me into this !

 

We've resisted invasion from Europe (sometimes rather unsuccessfully !!) for a couple of thousand years, why change now ? Do we really want to be part of the United States of Europe ? Why not stay independent, like Switzerland and trade with EVERYBODY ?

 

Anyway, from the scientific perspective metric has to be the way to go, it just all fits together, because it was designed to do so.

 

What we should really do is what the French do - take the best of both and only select the parts you like. When Brussels makes up daft laws we follow them to the letter, the French just kinda look the other way and pretend they don't exist. So this is one of the times where we have the opportunity to do this now. We can select the units of measure that suit us best, that we feel most comfortable with and what makes us happy. We are smart enough to deal with both.

 

Over time I think we will end up metric, through osmosis, education and natural wastage, but this solution this avoids people getting sent to prison for selling bananas by the pound.
